Hi there, MRL friends! It's Angie from Knick of Time. Today's project is an upcycled chair table.
Gail doesn't know it, but the project I have to share with you is in response to a comment Gail left on my blog. I had turned the back of a chair into a chalkboard and Gail asked what I planned to do with the seat base of the chair.
I hadn't thought that far yet, and it was still sitting in my driveway where I'd cut the back from the base, but I decided to figure it out so I could answer her question! 🙂
I'm a magnet for broken chairs and have made oodles and oodles of repurposed chair projects over the last few years. Some of those projects ended up being the first feature I ever had in a magazine (seen here), so I looked back at all of my old projects for inspiration and decided this chair base would become an upcyclecd chair table with a pallet wood top.
After the back had been removed
I loved the original shape of the seat, so I flipped it over onto a piece of scrap plywood, traced the shape and cut it out. To be clear, this would only be used as a pattern. Not ending up on the finished upcycled chair table. I won't throw this piece away though - I'm sure I can turn it into something else! 🙂
Make a seat pattern
First, I selected several pieces of pallet wood, laid them out and partially screwed the plywood pattern into the pallet pieces - just deep enough to keep them firmly attached together.
Cut pallet boards to match pattern
I used a jigsaw to cut around the plywood pattern, then unscrewed the plywood, since it wouldn't be needed anymore.
Attach pallet boards to upcycled chair table
I wanted the pallet wood top to be a bit darker color to match the chair legs. So I stained it all, then used my palm sander to give it all a worn and distressed look. I also put a new coat of stain over the upcycled chair table - just to freshen it up. Because I wanted to protect it, I added a coat of tung oil.
It's just the right size to use a next to the Adirondack chair in my front yard. Not just for outdoors, it works just as well indoors.
So, now I've made oodles and oodles + 1 repurposed chair projects! 🙂
Gail is the queen of repurposed chair projects though.
I hope you pop over and visit me at Knick of Time and see all my latest projects!

Great project Angie! I love your repurposed chair into a side table! It really is a great idea, and the reclaimed wood was the perfect addition to the chair.
Happy to have had a "hand" in this project by asking you what you were going to do with it.
Happy Friday!
