Silhouette Portrait™ Giveaway

Portrait angle
Are you ready to hear about the new Silhouette Portrait™?  I have used it and I love it!  I like that it’s small and compact. The price is very affordable too.   I made some Christmas projects changing up cheap and free items.

Silhouette designsI have the Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition.  Both it and the Silhouette Studio® are very easy to navigate and design. I hopped online and purchased a couple of new images.  I already had the ho ho ho and the tree.  Being able to quickly and easily purchase inexpensive images online when I need them is one of my very favorite features of owning a Silhouette. Most images are only .99.
TIP: I draw boxes around my images to make it easier to weed.
Silhouette PortraitI loaded my red Premium Vinyl into my new Portrait™.

Silhouette VinylThe Portrait™ cut everything out really clean, even the small lines on the candy cane tag.
TIP: It’s best to cut your vinyl on a very straight line, so that the next time you feed it into your machine your rollers pick it up right and allow it to roll in and out smoothly.
TIP: I always leave the outer sleeve in tact, and slide it over my vinyl roll when I store it.  It helps to keep the vinyl from getting bent or creased.
Christmas images from SilhouetteYou can see that I weeded the outlined box, and then used my hook tool to weed the inside parts of the Christmas tree. If you don’t have the hook tool, you can use tweezers.  I think the hook tool is much more efficient.

Christmas imagesI moved on to the Santa Claus, isn’t he cute?

Silhouette PortraitI continued with my weeding on the ho ho ho and the Merry Christmas tag.  I “pick” my vinyl with the hook tool, but with those tiny pieces in the Candy Cane tag, I sort of use the tool to “push” them out of the way.

Weeding vinylI then use a scrap piece of vinyl rolled up to pick up the tiny piece much like you would use tape to remove lint.

Silhouette Christmas ImagesI removed all the rest of the scrap vinyl from the boxes I had made.

Silhouette VinylTo transfer the images I use Silhouette transfer paper, burnishing the paper and images with a scraper tool. If you don’t have a scraper tool, you can use a credit card.

transfer imageI cut each of the four images apart.  I eyeballed the Christmas tree to get it centered, and placed the transfer paper and image on a candle holder.

Christmas Tree VinylCute, eh?

Candy Cane TagI did the tag a little differently. It was almost too wide, so I had to make sure it was placed just so. I used the transfer paper to act as a hinge.  After placing it where I needed it to be, I carefully raised up the paper and proceeded to peel the backing off of the vinyl.

Silhouette Premium VinylYou can see where I sort of had to fold back the slick backing paper to get the vinyl to release.
TIP: If your vinyl is difficult to weed, you may need to cut your vinyl a little deeper.  If your vinyl is hard to remove from the backing, you may be cutting your vinyl a little too deep.
Christmas Candle HolderIt fits perfectly!

Merry Christmas imageRemember, this was a blank tag to which I added the words “Merry Christmas”, you could customize it however you like with a family name or something.  Out of the 4 images I chose, this one is my favorite!

Here’s another project. . .
using the Design studioI bought this Christmas Card image at the Silhouette Online Store for 99 cents.  I didn’t want to make a card, but I really liked the Merry Christmas font and the stars.
ungroup images silhouetteI selected all, then in the bottom left, I clicked “ungroup”.

Merry Christmas imageAfter I got the image ungrouped, I selected the ornament, and deleted it which left the words and stars.  I selected all, and then “grouped” them so I could enlarge them.

$1 Christmas chargerI bought this red charger at my local $$$Tree for $1.  I used gold Silhouette Premium Vinyl to cut out my image.

$1 chargerI applied the transfer paper and laid it on my charger.

Merry Christmas ChargerI peeled the transfer paper off.

Red ChargerAfter I took this picture I noticed that a couple of the stars didn’t transfer—I just picked them off and placed them as though they were stickers. I used this for a $1 prize at my Bunco last week. I think Tracy really liked it, and was surprised that it was a $1 prize.  I bought a silver one too, thinking about doing “Let It Snow” with some blue snowflakes on that one.
