Are you sick of seeing this before picture? Just think, this is what I’ve been looking at for 27 years!
This is how I taped the trim to dry fit it.
This is how I taped the trim to glue it!
A little over kill?
Isn’t it wonderful all the natural light I get in this room?
Those windows that cost me so much for the blinds… let a lot of light in.
I love the black and the white together!
I am so glad I did this. I am NOT done.
Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be done!
I need to do some touchups and some caulking.
I still need to put the quarter round down.
I believe I’m going to add trim to both ends of the hearth. I will probably be trudging out in the snow. 🙁
I still have to attach the boards (1×5) on the side of the area between the top of the mantel and the floor. Of course, I’m sure I have more painting to do! It is never ending!
I hope to finish this step of the project this weekend. I am anxious to start the shelving unit for the tv/cable box. I took a break Thursday morning and went to the Peddler’s Mall. I picked up a few things. I’ll show you what I got on Monday. Have a great weekend.

ps thanks to everyone for their support, comments, and kind words over the last couple of weeks! It means a lot to me. This has been a challenge to do alone. Things would sure go a lot smoother with a helper. If you are lucky enough to have that person in your life, go hug them right now and tell them how much you appreciate them!
Congratulations on a wonderful job… the fireplace makeover is amazing. I know this will brighten up the entire room. Thanks so much for the kind comments you left on my Ballard knock-off post.
Gail, you are doing an amazing job… I LOVE the trim work… I can’t believe it is the same fireplace it looks absolutely gorgeous… one good thing about doing it on your own is no one else can still your thunder… now lift your arm and give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.
Hugs Deb
Great work, the trim work looks so nice!
I can’t wait to see your vision for the shelves above!
That looks amazing! I love painting over ugly fire places but you’ve taken it one step further added a fabulous dimension! Something I will have to keep in mind for future projects.
For a person who does not know what you are doing, it looks to me what you are doing great!

It is looking so awesome!
the fireplace is coming along great – 27 years is a long time for a change. I think it is going to change the feel of entire room and worth the wait. All the best, Lori
wow-it’s looking great. I recently painted my fireplace white & it’s opened up the home so much. It’s so bright!
