Audrey,

hmmmm I'm guessing it's sort of like bead board? That's tough. I don't think I would even attempt to make a chalkboard out of that kind of surface. The best option I can think of is to add a thin piece of plywood to the inset area ???

I'd like to try this technique on one of my actual cupboards but I have a question. My cupboard inserts have grooves in them (kind of like paneling grooves). Is there something I can do to fill that in without replacing the entire door? We tried removing the insert but it's pretty much impossible. Suggestions? Thanks!

Kristin,

I use that glaze all the time, but I really, really love how the light glazing looks with the crisp black chalkboard. ;)

What's not to love about an easy cupboard door chalkboard, right?

I really love using the Rust-Oleum in the can through my Finish Max when I'm doing a lot of chalkboards. But for a quickie project, the spray paint can't be beat. I got a good deal on Amazon.

Jennie,

All great ideas! Did you have a chalkboard while you were raising kids? I had pieces of papers and notes everywhere. I really wish I had a chalkboard back then.
