Some of my newest friends may not know that I have declared this the year that I will de-clutter and get organized. It is NOT going to happen overnight. Having lived in the same house for the last 35 years, I have accumulated a lot of stuff. Closets in my opinion are the lowest priority on my list of things to do. NO longer!
This is the before of a couple of shelves in the bathroom closet.
. . . and the after. Towels? You can definitely tell they are not a high priority around here. They are old and worn.
This closet is very wide. This section here is the part that was an original linen closet. Imagine that the door to the linen closet was was right there where the right side of the shelves are attached to the wall.
I found an old picture of the bathroom from way back when. All the area on the right (bathtub and linen closet) now make up the large walk-in closet. The area where the toilet paper holder is, is now a doorway into the shower/tub area.
Do you see that round cushion on the floor? That is my laundry drop. I keep that cushion over it so that I don’t accidently drop items into the basement.
Meet my new and improved closet! I know that I should store my sheets inside one of the pillow cases, but after things got out of hand, it just seemed pointless! Much better!
Here you can see that the closet is really deep.
There’s my laundry drop! Please ignore the stains on the floor. Some glue/adhesive that I’ve never gotten off the tile.
Did you notice the three hot water bottles on the top shelf? We had an ice storm a couple of years ago and I was without heat for a couple of days. It was COLD! Since I have a gas water heater, I filled those bottles with hot water to help me keep warm in bed. I sort of look at them as an insurance policy. Maybe if keep them, it won’t happen again ???
Okay, now on to the “closet of shame”. You probably have heard that I’m practically begging for votes on this closet. My house has a non-purpose room. It’s really chopped up. There are too many doors in that room. There is a double doorway (kitchen) basement door, bathroom door, back door, closet door, garage door, and a door to an enclosed porch. Ohh and a large picture window, and 2 regular windows, side by side.
This room is not very large (sq. ft) It is really long and narrow, sort of a glorified hallway. It was larger until the main bathroom was remodeled. Extending the bathroom for the shower and tub, took sq. ft. away from this room. Since the room is not really used for any purpose, this closet sort of gets lost in the shuffle.
Enter Home Depot “Clean That Closet” contest! Shannon @ Quarry Orchard told me about the contest a couple of weeks ago. I entered the contest and basically got so busy with the blog hop that I forgot about the voting until over the weekend.
If you’ve been over to vote in the contest, you know that this closet is 55 years old and has never even been painted. I’ve lived here for 35 years, so I am not responsible for it not getting painted originally.
Sadly, I did not stage this. That’s the way it has looked for many years. Unused, unloved.
So, here I am asking you one last time, if you haven’t voted, would you please help me out? You will need to go to Home Depot, register, (email, name, zip code) choose a password, then a Login name. After you do that, then you can click the orange star (nailed it) and vote. If you feel like it you can also leave a comment.
I know that you are busy, but here’s what I could win:
First Place Winning entry receives a $1,000 in Home Depot Gift Cards and Storage and Organization Prize Package, valued at over $1,100. Second Place Winning entry receives – $500 in Home Depot Gift Cards and Third Place Winning entry receives – $250 in Home Depot Gift Cards
The First Place winner will be given 6 months to redeem their prize which includes free professional design for one closet in their home and free product up to $500 retail. Installation will not be included. The First Place winner will need to complete one of the attached forms (Selectives or Wire) so that we may create their free designs.
Isn’t that an awesome prize package? Thank you Shannon for telling me about this! There is only one vote per email address, and voting ends today (February 3, 2011) at 4:59 pm EST.
My regular readers know how much I LOVE Home Depot! Can you imagine how great it would be to win this?
To those who have already voted– thank you from the bottom of my heart!
ps As I write this post, I am ahead by only 1 vote. It’s going to be a very close race.
