The very nice people at Dremel gave me their newest Dremel tool, a Trio. I was so excited when I got it, I was like a kid at Christmas time. After watching several videos on YouTube, I got busy.
The Trio is such a versatile tool, I thought I would just let you see for yourself how wonderful it is. I love watching this video, in fact it makes me want to go make something RIGHT NOW.
This is my new Trio. Isn’t it pretty?
Print & Trace Ampersand
Here’s where I failed to fully read the directions. (sorry Dremel) It is limited to cutting wood up to 1/2 inch. I had a 1x which is 3/4 inches thick. I believe in full disclosure. The ampersand was printed out and traced onto my board.
Because the pine is so soft, it easily leaves an impression.
Looks pretty, don’t you think?
Cut Ampersand with Dremel Trio
I ended up breaking a bit. I’m sure it was due to operator error, not a defect of the Trio. It did cut quite a bit of the ampersand, but I think when I pulled it out of the board, I broke it. After that happened, I thought I would play around with the router bit. That’s what you see towards the top.
Making an Ampersand out of plywood
Plan B. I traced it again on a piece of luan.
You see that I have it clamped down for ease of cutting. You can also see my earplugs. The Trio is mighty, but it is pretty loud.
Here is my ampersand cut out, but not sanded yet. I’m not much of a detail person, so I thought this was pretty good for my first project. My sister is the one that got the tedious cutting genes. I’ll tell you more about that next week after Glendale.
I love that this Trio does “plunge cutting”. No drilling a starting hole to cut with your jigsaw.
Sand plywood ampersand
After I cut it out, I used the drum sanding tool to make it all smooth. Don’t you just LOVE my attire? Note the scrubs (long pants) AND a flannel shirt. This was 2 weeks ago when we actually had a cold spell. This weekend we were about 90 degrees.
Using a wooden ampersand in home decor
Here it sits on my media center.
I had hoped to make another project before I showed off my new toy. But due to the kitchen makeover I haven’t been able to make anything else yet.
The few things I didn’t like, were the noise, that it won’t cut through thicker wood and that my Home Depot doesn’t sell many accessories.
Although I did receive the Dremel Trio, I received no other compensation. The words and opinions are my own. Your results may vary.
