While looking at some old pictures I realized that I have had this microwave cart for 17 years. I was very surprised. Time sure does fly.
    100_7772
It was just your run of the mill cart.
    100_7773
This cart is very practical for me, so no real need to replace it. However it could use a new look.

Dutch Boy offered me some paint. They sent me this awesome color fan deck. I have to tell you the day I got this I was a happy camper. I appreciate color, I love all the wonderful colors in nature. I found looking at this fan deck very calming. I was practically hypnotized by all the colors. I knew I wanted my cabinets to be white, but what shade? It’s unbelievable how many shades of white there are. I wanted a blue for the walls.
After I chose my colors, Sweetened White, (semi-gloss)  and Twilight Navy, (satin)  I ended up chatting online with Danielle Hirsch in a Dutch Boy sponsored chat.

I’m sure you recognize her. If you’ve ever watched Design Remix or Color Splash, you’ve seen her work her magic with a paint brush. Anyway, it was great to join the online chat. (Danielle was at her home via a video chat)   I mentioned to Danielle that I was painting my kitchen with these two colors. She looked them up on her fan deck and thought they were too stark a difference. Too late! I had already put my order in to Dutch Boy.

My paint arrived safe and sound. I had used  Dutch Boy paint before, but not their new Refresh paint.
    From their site:
Adds Beauty. Eliminates Household Odors. The first and only paint with Arm & Hammer® odor-eliminating technology that beautifies and eliminates odors at the same time.

    Odor Elimination

Refresh® paint contains proven odor elimination technologies. Through natural airflow, the odor vapor molecules come in contact with the walls and are captured and locked within the paint film. Scrubbing the painted surface will not release the odors.

As you may recall, I painted the microwave cart with the Twilight Navy.

    100_7836
It’s not exactly what I had in mind, I thought the shade was a little bright.

    100_8011
I did a wash over it with some brown paint I had on hand.

    Now on to my cabinets.
    100_7575
I used the Dutch Boy Refresh paint in my gravity fed sprayer. The Dutch Boy Refresh paint has a nice consistency so I did have to dilute it a little.

    100_7646
I was so creamy! I love the pour handle. It made it much easier to pour into my paint cup.

    100_7647
These are some of the cabinet doors that I painted with my spray gun and the Dutch Boy Refresh Sweetened White.

    After
The premise behind the Dutch Boy Refresh paint is that it eliminates odor. Honestly, I hadn’t noticed a difference. But, as I write this post and think about it, I haven’t noticed any odors in the kitchen. There was very little odor of paint while I was actually painting which was a pleasant experience since I had used an oil based primer. I love the finish on my “new” cabinets! The Dutch Boy Refresh paint went on very smoothly and it really seems like it is going to last. You can see for yourself! Aren’t my cabinets gorgeous?
The kitchen still has a ways to go. I am definitely NOT going to be finished by Thanksgiving. But as one of my friends says, it will be “done enough.” I really look forward to cooking a large dinner and sitting down with the family at my “new to me” kitchen table, which was also painted with the Dutch Boy Refresh Sweetened White (semi-gloss).

I would definitely recommend Dutch Boy Refresh paint for your next project. I was very pleased with how well it covered and how easy it went on. I used it in the sprayer, a brush and a foam roller. It worked great with all applications. I ordered 3 gallons of the Sweetened White and I only used about 2 gallons on the table, the cabinets, and all the trim in the kitchen.

For more details on how I painted these things  you can check my Kitchen Makeover and I painted my vinyl floor.

disclaimer: although Dutch Boy generously gave me the paint, I received no other compensation. The opinions are all my own. Your experience my vary.

I looked through some previous postings, but couldn't find what you used to thin your paint before using it in the sprayer. You are definitely teaching this old dog some new tricks.

Oh I LOVE this post because I've been wanting to paint my oak cabinets white. Can you elaborate a bit on how you prepped your cabinets for painting?
      You inspire me!

Please tell me more about how you painted your table! I have a very similar table I've been wanting to paint but I don't know if I should sand it down and prime it or maybe just prime or maybe just go at it with paint! Your table looks great!

The table looks great in the white. Did you top coat it with anything? I was also wondering if you tried to lighten the blue by mixing some of the white in with it?

Thanks for the review, I have never used Dutch Boy paint. I wonder if someone local carries it or do you have to order on line?

Gail, I think the microwave cart turned out great and the color seems perfect. I also like the footprints on the floor.

      Hi Gail,

Everything looks great. I love the microwave in the blue with brown over it.

Did you use your sprayer in the house? Or only outside. I've been looking at the Wagner sprayers but can't decide. I have athe Wagner power roller and it's a God send but I was wondering if you can use the sprayers in the house?
