I had decided not to work on the fireplace today. I’ve got a bad shoulder and all the painting and scrubbing on the fireplace have just about done me in! But after resting for awhile this morning and taking some ibuprofen at breakfast and lunch, I dove in.
I sort of wanted thin trim. Jamie recommended chunky trim. So a compromise was in order…
… a little of both. Please disregard the vertical piece on the far right. I mitered it and I shouldn’t have. (note to self: raise bottom board slightly to allow for the possibility of tile installation).
The outside trim is 1×4, the inside trim is some kind of “bead” trim at home depot. (.39 lf) I have it temporarily taped to see if I like it. I think I do, how about you? I still have not made a final decision about painting the brick around the firebox and the firebox itself. I know it would look really nice if it were new brick (like the lettered cottage) but since it is old, used brick, I’m having a hard time “seeing” it.
All in all it was a productive day. I got the kitchen cleaned up, cooked a beef roast, and even did some laundry. Real life has been put on hold for the last week, it felt good to get some things done.
The weather is supposed to be a little better tomorrow and Saturday. It would be great if I could paint all this trim outside, instead of on the kitchen table. I need to poly the coffee table, and the two ikea side tables. I also need to paint my lamp.
Have a great weekend!
