I have a great project for you today, it’s easy and it’s cheap! For me it was free because I already had some chalkboard spray paint on hand.
I’d love to take the credit for this project, but a good blog friend was my inspiration for this project.
Patricia from Corn In My Coffee Pot realized that she could turn advertiser’s magnets into magnetic chalkboards! I was so inspired, that I dug out my stash of advertiser magnets.
These were not on my fridge, I had stacked them neatly and placed them in a drawer in my craft station/kitchen island because I knew they were too good to throw out. I gathered what I needed: a sanding sponge to take off the shine, and some Chalkboard Spray Paint.
You can see I’ve been hanging on to this one since 2009!
Most of these came on my phone book.
After a couple of quick coats, I was done.
I had nine square magnets, they’d be great for tic tac toe on the fridge for the kiddos.
I wonder how I ever got along without chalkboards all those years when Jamie was young. I suppose my memory was better then and I didn’t need to leave notes everywhere.
I’ve really become a fan of the spray paint, it leaves such a nice finish.
Look what I received on my porch recently—a new silhouette portrait. It’s petite compared to the CAMEO, but I am in love with it.
The portrait is for 9 inch Silhouette Vinyl.
It’s very simple to operate, a lot like the SD, except it has a pause feature. (because we sometimes make mistakes)
I cut my vinyl out and applied it directly onto the chalkboard paint on some of my magnets.
This is a phrase I recently did for my sister for her wall.
I love this idea of free magnets! Just as Patricia and I had them laying around, I bet you do too! That lady is one smart (thrifty) cookie! Thank you so much Pat for inspiring me! If you’re not a regular reader of Corn In My Coffee Pot, you’re missing out!
Stay tuned for more great news on the Silhouette portrait, I hear they are going to be having a really good deal for Black Friday!

sharing here:
Hey! I see it’s been a while but is there a chance you remember the font you used on your vinyl here? Love it but don’t recognize it. Thanks.
Jo,
My memory is so bad, but I actually had this project saved in my silhouette program, so I looked it up. It is Fontleroy Brown. 🙂
I’ll be emailing you too, to make sure you get this information.

Such a great idea! Now I wish some business would send me a magnetic calendar for christmas!
Great idea … thanks for sharing. I hopped over from Pat’s Corn in my Coffee Pot. Love her.

Timeless Treasures.
What a genius idea! I’m excited to try!! 🙂
What a grand idea! I love blogging friends that have such creativeness like that. I love the “pause” feature on the new machine, smart. I have one of those magnets at the river house, totally going to do this! It will come in handy out there.
Such a great idea! I am pinning this, love it!
Pat is one of my favorite bloggers! She is so creative, frugal and unique. What a great idea – not surprised it was hers. Ann
What a clever idea! Pinning!
Oh Gail… I am sobbing right now… I got rid of all my magnets this summer and I had some nice big ones… they would have been perfect for this project.
What an awesome idea.
Hugs,
Deb
They turned out great Gail!
You are a whiz!! Ü
Oh those little magnetic chalkboards are clever and thrifty too!
Great idea. Unfortunately, I don’t have any of those..they aren’t popular ways to advertise around here.
Have a good week!

The bliss of free stuff ;o). I used one of those freebies to make a little sign for my dishwasher to let everyone know if the dishes are clean or dirty. I also safe the magnetic strips from my shopping lists. They would make nice mini chalk boards, thanks for the idea!
have a great week,
Sue
You know, I’ve been saving these. I KNEW I would find a good use for them! WOOT!!!! 🙂 Thank you!
Great, great, great idea Gail! I have a lot of those magnets because I knew they’d be food for something someday! I’m also interested in learning about the Silhouette portrait because I don’t want to get involved with the big complicated one…. Looking forward to more details!
Susan
I have a bunch of these magnets floating in my junk drawer. Never wanted to toss them because I knew they could be used for something. What a fun idea! Thanks for posting!
How great an idea this is. A must try. 🙂
