This morning’s guest post is from my blogger friend Cassie. Cassie and I are both in the DIY Club, but we go way back before that. Cassie does awesome furniture makeovers, and I’m always in awe of her painting talent, and her eye to see something wonderful from something old and worn out.
Hello My Repurposed Life readers! I am so excited to be here, and so honored that Gail asked me to help her out while she is away marrying off her daughter. 🙂 Gail and I go back quite a while now in blogging terms, and she has been one of the friendliest and most helpful to me, always answering my questions. And trust me, I have plenty.
For those of you who don't know me, I am Cassie from Primitive and Proper. My blog focuses on furniture revamps, a little home decor, a little craftiness, and a little bit more!
That's me squeezed between two of my most favorite people in the whole world, besides Gail of course. And my husband, too, I guess. Since Gail's blog is all about repurposing, I thought I would share a repurposed plate rack project with you. This is a brand new, never before on my blog seen projects, so hang on to your underpants, because it's about to get exciting! My son, Sawyer, will be turning 6 this summer, and we have slowly been making his room over in a Star Wars, more big boy direction. We bought his quilt, but the area around his bed was still in train, boat, little boy mode, as you can see here...
I removed the train signs, and added some galactic inspired vinyls, but it still needed something where the oars were. We also needed more book storage... our family reads a lot, and we encourage our kids to read a lot, so they both have vast book collections. A while back I bought this antique plate rack for $5. Please nevermind the filth- I bought it like that knowing I could fix it up!
I cleaned it up, primed it, and painted it in a dark gray I had on hand that coordinated with the bedding and vinyls.
Once that was done, I gathered up 4 eye hooks and some thin rope. I measured where I wanted the hooks, and screwed them into the inner sides of the plate rack. Then I tied the rope as taut as I could, so that it strung across the plate rack.
Here is how it looks in his room! And yes- I know I need to touch up some paint now on that wall as well as remove the anchors that held his oars. I'll get to that! 🙂 I am really happy with it, and he is excited to have a spot for more books as well as his trophies!
Gail thank you sooo much for having me over today! I hope the wedding is beautiful, and I wish Jamie and Andy a life filled with much love and happiness! Please come over and visit me by clicking on my button! Hope to see you!

Wow Cassie! I have a plate rack that I repurposed from a crib…. I need to stage it as a book shelf/trophy holder! Super repurpose my friend! Thanks so much for the well wishes for Jamie and Andy!
The wedding was actually yesterday, and I’m sure I am extremely happy, but probably a wee bit tired today. I’ll be back in a few days with pictures! Please stop by later today for another great guest post!

What a great book/plate rack! I like the rope idea a lot. It's a good spot for some books, too. Very cool!

Nice to meet you, Cassie. Just kidding! Happy to see you over here today. You know I love your blog and fun personality. Cute photo...love how your daughter is sandwiched in there. 🙂
Great way to repurpose the plate shelf! I might have to try that. I think it's nice that he can look up from his bed and see family photos and trophies, too. Great idea! Enjoy your Sunday! XO

How cute! I like that it's right next to his bed so that he can grab a book to read before heading off to sleep. The rope railing was a great idea.
Cindy @ LeChaiseParfait
I love that for books, it looks great and ties in so nicely.

Cassie this is a fantastic repurposing project! I am slapping myself because I JUST passed up a plate rack at a yard sale yesterday! That rope is the perfect way transform it into a book rack. You know my little Star Wars fiend really needs a place for his "What is a Wookie?" book!

Great repurpose of that plate rack. What a smart and simple solution for filling that space. Your son is a lucky boy. His room is so cool!
