WARNING: very boring post ahead.
I am NOT a hoarder, although it may appear so from some of these pictures. Donna is having a party, Gitter Done 4. I started on this project and got ONE cupboard done, then got sidetracked for a week. But I wanted to join Donna’s party so I gotter done! (well sort of)
In the not too distant future I plan to paint my cabinets white. I have lived in this home for 34 years, so yes I gathered a little too much clutter. The plan is to clean out before I get ready to paint, so it may be an easier task. (having less stuff to move, etc)
Looking in my cabinets gives you a little peek into my poor eating habits.
This cabinet is on the right of my fridge. I don’t know the proper terminology of cabinetry. The fridge has built ins around it. You may NEVER see the one on the other side of the fridge. It is the catchall/tool/junk place.
This looks a little better, huh?
This is the bill/stationery dept. It is to the left of the stove.
I have a tendency to save little notes the kiddos leave me. The post its are random notes. The pumpkin/jack-0-lantern Jamie made when she was 4. I’m not sure when it ended up on the cabinet door, but I promise you it has not been there for 24 years! My cabinets are about 10 years old.
Those top two notes are from my great nephew Bubba. The HA HA HA one is because he can’t stand for me to leave time on the microwave. You know, stop it with a few seconds on it. For years I would purposely put some time on it, because when I went out and came home, if the time had been cleared, I knew he had stopped by. 🙂 We’re silly like that! The one below it is also from Bubba. The bottom one is from Jamie. I took pictures of all of the special items, but I won’t bore you with them.
This is the “after” even though it may not look like it. Okay, so I might be a paper hoarder. I’m always needing some paper, so I used to pick up notepads. I promise I will not buy anymore until all of these are gone!
I decided to put my radio and my speakers (for my new ipod Jamie gave me, isn’t she the best) inside the cabinet. It’s hard to believe if you look at my kitchen at the moment, but I really don’t like clutter. I like my counter tops to be clear. That’s why you see the sugar and the flour in the picture at the top in plastic baggies. No canisters out on the counter.
This is the cabinet to the right of the stove. Why do we have dishes in our cabinets that we NEVER use? Please tell me I am not the only one! I save Box Tops for a teacher friend and generally just throw them in the bottom right side of the cabinet.
Working around the kitchen, this is the cabinet next to the one above. It’s the corner cabinet that has all that dead space in the back. At the top, you see carryout foam. I use these when I go to pot lucks. (desserts) On the middle shelf, I’m not really sure how the metal bake ware got there. Those should definitely be with the cookie sheets. I used to keep paper plates in here, but I ran out for a long time, and other things sort of took over. Those two stacks of things are little plastic trays. I use them for everything! I got them from the school where I taught pre-k for 19 years. (when they closed down) They are great for small snacks, mixing burnt umber for a glaze, etc.
Do you see something strange here? Look at all of those butter tub lids. Do you see ANY butter tubs? Nope, not one, nada, zilch.
Donna had a great video or tutorial or something where she talked about GUT don’t SHUFFLE. So, that’s what I did. I took everything out.
Then I put back only what I really couldn’t part with . . .
. . . which includes the foam containers.
Now, this is a little off subject for a minute. I have used Corelle dishes my whole life. I got the set pictured way up in this post when the kitchen cabinets were replaced 10 years ago. Can you see the size difference? The one on the right is vintage Corelle. Look how small it is. I purposely kept several of these bowls for snacks, ice cream etc. The large ones encourage larger portions!
This is a before, but seriously the after doesn’t look much different.
This is the last set of cabinets that go around my kitchen. They are to the right of my sink. I don’t keep my medicine in the bathroom. To me that just seems like too much trouble.
both of them, only to fill them back up. This is a pretty boring post, I’ve probably lost half of my audience by now. 🙂 If you’re still here, you seriously need to find something to do.
This is my “bucket-o-fun” It is located in the top right of that “medicine” cabinet. What is a bucket-o-fun you ask?
Cards, cards and more cards. Plus lots of score pads. We keep our score pads for years! We date the page, and put a little tidbit about why so and so isn’t here. (so and so generally be Jamie, because she was away at college or already moved to n’ville)
These are more goodies from the bucket-o-fun. S P O O N S !!! Have you ever played spoons? We love it in our family!
This is the after. Bucket-o-fun still up on the top right. I kept some plastic cups and tumblers in case someone drops by with small children.
After . . . even though it doesn’t look very nice. Top left, I use those to go cups when I’m working outside, and top right, I use reusable water bottles now. I no longer buy the throw away bottled water.
Some of the special items I couldn’t bring myself to part with.
I can’t tell you how many meals Jamie ate off of these plates.
It’s just a few plates… they don’t take up much room. I’m going to hold on to the vintage Corelle until I find out if Jamie wants any of it. If not, then it’s going in the yard sale pile.
I really did throw a lot away, honest! This was another case of having tons of lids but no bottoms. I think I must grab the tubs to use for painting more than I realize, then I end up with all lids!
So there you have it. I gotter done (sort of). The sort of part comes in when I tell you I only did the upper cabinets. I will do the lower cabinets soon.
Like I said this has been quite a boring post, but I had to to it because it kept me accountable!
I hope you’re having a great weekend. Giveaway ends in less than two hours. You can click it on the top right of my sidebar.
