There are options for repairing, including Bondo. Personally, I haven’t had much luck refinishing wood after a repair. The patching medium rarely stains the same as the original wood.
Patching and painting is definitely a doable option, as well as adding a pretty furniture transfer, stencil or decoupage. If you need more advice, I would need to see a photo of the table. gail @ MyRepurposedLife .com (remove the spaces)

I totally understand Naomi. But I am loving the new look of the old chair, and it’s very handy at the hideaway. But it definitely needs some cushioning.
