Hi Gail, I love your blogs especially the ceiling fan idea. I have several that need updating but they have three or four lights. I like your lamp shade idea and I think I might try a drum type shade on mine. Thanks for the inspiration.

SO glad I found you! I am at my parent's house trying to "update" it. I don't know how much longer they'll be able to live on their own and want to have it ready to sell when the time comes.

They have your fan and two others very similar to it.

Luckily for me, I build and install ceiling fan and lighting displays at Lowe's stores, so the taking it apart and putting it together is no big hooha at all! :)

My question is about your prep work. Did you sand/clean before spraying? Did you use a certain type of spray paint, or just plain old spray paint? Same stuff on the metal and the "wood?"

I can't make them white, because the house is spanish-style with LOTS of wood trim.

If I could send or post pics, I'd love to have some brainstorming support, if that's possible?

I hope I'm not a "no-reply comment blogger," because I'm not sure what that is or how not to be one.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have a very similar fan in my kitchen (minus the big globe…I’ve got 3 small lights coming from it). I’ve HATED it for the 10 yrs we’ve lived here, but haven’t been able to justify the cost to replace it with all the other things that have had to be updated.

NOW, I can head to the hardward store and get some spraypaint, flip the blades (never thought of that!) and it will be like a brand new fan!! YAY!!

I am wondering about the wicker on the original fan. Am I crazy? I can’t see the wicker at all. Did you turn them around or something? I love what you did and I have a couple of fans (with wicker!) that I’m going to paint.

Looks great! Your shade idea is really interesting! I’m planning on doing this with a fan in my guest room so it was nice to see how you did it. Some people leave their fan hanging when they spray, but I can’t imagine doing that. Much easier to take it down in my opinion.
