Tomorrow, I will show you the final version of the play kitchen center. But, what’s a stove and sink without a fridge?
I’ve had this cabinet in my garage for a long, long time. But recently I reworked all the storage options and no longer needed this piece.
There was some trim on one end. I removed it and then got busy taking out the finish nails. Did you know that the best way to remove nails from trim/molding is to pull them through the back. Do NOT hammer them from the back to the front. If the trim was done correctly the hole was filled in, and will not be visible if you pull it through.
I cut two pieces of luan to cover each side of the “fridge”.
I tack it on with my nail gun around all edges.
I reused the original trim, but it’s not in the original place, so it doesn’t fit quite right.
I used my orbital sander to round off the edge to make it look like it always belonged.
This is the top of the fridge.
Tall rectangular box=1 play fridge!
The cabinet had a built in clean on the left. I was unable to remove it, so I chose to add another one on the right to match it.
I cut shelves and notched out the back corners to fit around those cleats.
To space the shelves, I used some scrap pieces of wood to figure out where to put the support cleats.
You can see that I place the cleats on the shelf. I marked them, then glued and nailed them in place.
All the cleats are in place, just need some paint.
The fridge is ready for the doors to be put on.
Not shown: I used old cabinet hinges that I spray painted. I bought new handles for the doors.
The top compartment is the freezer, and the bottom is the fridge.
I used one of those $1 cabinet doors to make a chalkboard for the side.
