Pardon the distraction from the fireplace makeover. These things don’t happen overnight. It’s sort of like watching paint dry. Meanwhile I will show you a project from my good friend Rose.
Rose really is the queen of good curb finds and thrift store bargains! She tells us below how easy and fast it is to make a cloche!
Rose got this candle holder for $2.00. It was marked $4.00, but she got it 50% off.
She unscrewed the candle insert inside the hurricane (this sandwiched the glass dome between the base and candle cup)
The first step was to wash & dry the glass.
She then flipped the base upside down (the bottom came covered with black felt already), and inverted the glass globe.
She put a doorknob on top to cover the raw edge of the glass neck using a bead of clear silicone caulk. She then tied some raffia on top to hide the look of the silicone.
Rose chose a pretty bird to place on the base.
After putting the cloche together, Rose decided to change it up a little.
She found the perfect glass knob to use in place of the door knob.
Rose also found the perfect size piece of junk for the “collar”
The knob, with the collar were a perfect fit.
Rose painted the base black, and it all came together to make a beautiful vignette, don’t you think?
Okay, here are a couple of pics of the fireplace:
I painted another coat on the firebox, and 2 coats of trim paint on the hearth today. I am so tired of painting! But! I have to say, I love, love, love the firebox painted! It doesn’t look near as deep as it did.
Hopefully tomorrow I will have the trim mostly done. I still have to cut some, so I need to do it before it starts snowing. I refuse to traipse in and out in the snow to make all those miter cuts!
If you would like to see more of Rose’s finds and projects, she has a blog, check it out here.
