I’m a dumpster diver by nature. I mean, I love free stuff that other people deem unworthy of keeping. I recently heard the noise of a big ole truck in the neighborhood, and went to investigate. I saw it dropping off a B.I.G. dumpster across the street. It wasn’t very long before I had to walk over to see just what they may be throwing away.
This is what I saw. Great weathered wood. Much of it was random pieces, so I dug through to pick out a few pieces that I thought would come in handy.
I also spotted this floor lamp. Did you see the floor lamp repurposed into a solar light for my porch? Who doesn’t need more solar lights?
A week passed and my friend Leann mentioned to me that she had tagged me on Facebook and texted me about something she saw. Somehow the tag, nor the text came through. So, I said “huh, what”? Then she pulled up this post on her phone and I was giddy! She messaged her friend to see if this loot was still available, and YES, it was!
The next morning I arrived to find all of this weathered wood! There were 2×4’s, 4×4’s dog eared fence boards and even TWO 6×6’s (?) I am not sure that’s their size, but they are HUGE and HEAVY!
We loaded up our first load and hauled it home and unloaded it.
This I what the pile looked like after the first load. By the time we got back to get load #2 it was raining. Not raining hard, but the biggest rain drops I have ever seen! The second load was not near as pretty as the first load, and I was too wet to even think about taking pictures.
There is still one more load to get, mostly 2×4’s. I’m hoping to get them today or tomorrow. I have to clear out a place to store them.
Later in the afternoon, it rained off and on, and I caught a glimpse of this rainbow.
Most of the dog eared fence boards will become signs for my Etsy shop. The 2×4’s and 4×4’s might become benches or stools. The larger pieces of 2×6’s and 2×8’s will probably become shelving. I love free finds!
What would you do with all this goodies? Have you found any good stuff lately?

What great finds. Hey, there is nothing better in a find than FREE!!! . LOVE IT!!! I am sure your will find lots of goodies to make this this haul
Have to say I’m a little jealous. You are set for a while.
What a haul, Gail. Good for you! My daughter just sold a stack of her old gray fence boards for $90! Weathered wood is like gold to me, too. Score one for you!
wow lucky lucky you xx
And with those two finds GAIL was in heaven! I don’t blame you one bit. Amazing things to run across.
OH, those are great finds. i especially love the floor lamp!
I’ve been wanting to put up weathered wood pieces on the inside of one of my barn walls. We have an annual barn dance and the wood wall background would be perfect to display some of the items I like for everyone to see!
Oh wow, what wonderful hauls!
I’m always amazed at what folk throw away, but their trash can be our treasure so it works out well.
I’ve recently discovered woodturning and carving, I’d love to find a bumper crop of wood and get carving!
ohhh, some of these larger pieces would be great for carving….wish you were closer!
