I’d done a door arbor for my mom a couple years ago and wanted to do one for my yard too, just couldn’t quite make out where to put it. Once I found the dog silouette, that was the lightbulb moment. Everything came together from there. The white brick surround is actually concrete fake stone siding leftover from a commercial building. They wanted to throw away the leftovers so I carted them all home! The posts are from a porch in my mom’s neighborhood that was torn down and thrown to the curb. (got a lot of the old t&g floorboards too) I loved the house number that was still on one post, that became the “address” for the garden.
The doors didn’t match in style but were close, so a few old lath strips cut to size made the 3 window panes look like the 9 on the other door.
Oh, and I hate to dig, so metal t-posts hammered into the ground are anchoring the posts. Even so, my husband was enlisted to help pound those babies in the ground. That was the hardest part of the whole project! (2nd hardest was getting the glass out of the windows.)
The location was chosen by our dogs, who love to watch people go by from that corner of the yard. It’s their “sentry station”.
