I spent a couple of days in the basement shop making some signs. I think it’s easier to make a lot of signs with vinyl lettering all at the same time, sort of like an assembly line.
I had some vinyl pieces already cut, but was happy to cut some more on my Silhouette.
I bought a couple of 1×10’s and cut them to length trying to work around the knot holes. I gathered some of my favorite paints. I had an order for a Red and a Blue “God’s Top 10”. I have been keeping my phone in a baggie. I am able to paint without taking a chance of getting any smudges on the phone. It is a touch screen, and it works perfectly even through the plastic.
I keep my foam brushes in baggies in between coats. The black foam brush has been in the basement in a baggie since way before Christmas.
After painting my board with a pretty cream color, I apply a stencil of God’s Top 10. After the stencil is applied and the transfer tape removed, I put a quick coat of cream over the entire stencil before applying the black paint that will be the color of the letters. (see below)
This is a cream sign with black painted words.
Blue with white vinyl (as per the special order)
Red with white vinyl (as per the special order)
Black paint with white painted letters, lightly distressed.
Cream paint with black vinyl lettering.
Black paint with red painted (stenciled) letters.
Black paint with cream painted letters, branch and birds.
Below is a very long, somewhat boring video showing you step by step how I created this sign.
