Silhouette has a great promotion this month. They sent me some sketch pens to try out. I am not a scrapbook person. I don’t have cute paper laying around. I’m going to show you two quick projects I did with plain ole white cardstock.
After downloading a few “sketch” images, I designed an image in the Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition. The font is akaFrivolity. The image is a sketch image, however the text is just simply text. This was my first try, and I didn’t really read up on how to do it, so I did it a little different than the “right” way.
I saved my project, then temporarily deleted the text portion. I switched out my blade for a green glitter sketch pen.
I set the cut settings to Silhouette Sketch Pen, and put my cardstock onto my cutting mat.
It was really fun to watch it draw this ornate image. When it was done I did NOT unload the mat.
I switched out the green glitter pen for the pretty pink glitter pen. Then I added the text back and temporarily deleted the frame. I sent it to silhouette again, and said cut.
This time only the text was drawn with the glitter pen.
Then I offset the frame.
After doing the offset, I temporarily deleted the other items, changed my cut settings to cardstock, and cut out the frame.
Keeping it real here. I have shown you the correct settings. I accidently cut it with medium cardstock and it didn’t cut all the way through the cardstock. NOW, had I realized that before unloading my mat, I could have recut it. But I didn’t. So I removed the card from the mat, and cut it out by hand with scissors. It’s not pretty folks. Learn from my mistakes, k?
For my second attempt, I read the directions (tutorial) on the Silhouette Blog.
I designed my image in the Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition. It’s a cute little box that I added text to.
To choose individual items to cut or not to cut you use the Cut Style tool. It is on the toolbar to the left of the A. By holding the shift key down and clicking on each letter in the Happy Birthday text I am able to select NO CUT. So, in this first round, only the word Claire will be sketched.
I put the pretty aqua glitter pen in the blade holder and “cut” it. When you have a sketch pen installed, you still use the cut command.
Note: the choice is Silhouette Sketch Pen in the top box, and I have sketch pen selected in the bottom also.
I then do the opposite, telling the silhouette NOT to cut (sketch) Claire. You can see in the blade holder I have switched to a pretty pink glitter pen.
After both colors are sketched, I change out the pen, and install the blade. REMEMBER: Do NOT unload the mat until this project is complete.
Also remember to switch settings back to blade so that you can cut your box.
After your box is cut, assemble it using glue stick and/or double stick tape. (there are two sheets of cardstock that need to be cut for this project, I only showed you one step)
Just add tissue paper and a gift!
Tie on a bow.
Your personalized gift is ready for giving.
Disclaimer: I am not a card maker, nor am I a scrap book maker. I have no specialty paper on hand. I used plain ole white cardstock. Imagine how much you can do with all the great papers you have!
It’s hard to see in the photo, but the faint glitter in the text is perfect! I’m not usually all about glitter, but I fell in love with the way these projects came out.
