I have had this plantation shutter for a long, long time. I don’t even remember where I got it. I’ve never really had an idea of how to repurpose it until I saw something at Cracker Barrel that gave me an idea for my upcycled shutter.
This was my inspiration for this upcycled shutter project. My shutter was larger, so I chose to do my phrases a little different.

I didn’t take a picture of my project before I started, but it was just a large plantation shutter similar to these.
Easy upcycled shutter project
First, I removed the tilt bar and added a scrap piece of thin wood to make the louvers stationary.
I used Heirloom Traditions Paint Buttermilk Chalk Type Paint to give my repurposed plantation shutter a nice vintage look. I used some Heirloom Traditions clear wax.
How to design multiple lines in the Silhouette program
The design was done in the Silhouette program using the Gabriola Font in a size of 135. I did all of the phrases, and just let some hang out off of the working page. Then I just moved them when I wanted to cut them out.
Easy vinyl transfer with Painter's Tape
I used brown vinyl (from Silhouette) and took advantage of the easy transfer method using painter’s tape. You can transfer several lines reusing the same piece of tape. I like the gentler hold of the painter’s tape compared to transfer material for small items like this.
Voila! here is the end result! This was a quickie project that I did a couple of months ago.
Don't you love how it turned out? I do and I wonder why it took me so long to repurpose this plantation shutter.
I hope I’ve inspired you to do your own upcycled shutter project! It's so much fun to do shutter projects, and fake shutter projects using bi-fold doors. 🙂

I think if like something that when one flips them to the other closed they show another proverb and the other side shows other words like with a typeface one can read upside down.

That's a great idea Hahn! I like the way you think.
