I showed you how I refurbished this old buffet into my new media center in my post Vintage Buffet Repurposed to Media Center
This is how it looked when we last saw it. If you recall, I didn’t have it in the house yet. Well, I did get it in the house before my Bunco party last week. I had help getting it in the house, but I took out the old media center all by myself. THAT was a job!
Before I brought it in, I added wheels to it. After having the other media center in place for so many years and NOT being able to move it—I wanted to be able to move this one in order to clean, etc.
I had forgotten to drill a hole in the back for the cords. I used this 1 ¼ inch paddle bit and drilled it in the center, near the shelf, so that it’s not visible once the cable box is placed here.
After getting it in the house, I noticed that one of the doors was sticking really bad. I tried to take care of it with a rasp… but after making a huge mess, I ended up taking the door off to sand it outside. I had to sand a lot off, and it still sticks a little.
Here it is in the living room. It is sooo difficult to get a good picture of black furniture. The black hardware sort of gets lost on the piece, don’t you think? I borrowed a couple of glass knobs (temporarily) from the tower of terror.
I had spray painted the original hardware black, but decided to buff it up, with some Rub ‘n Buff. See that little dot of silver leaf on my glove? That was enough to do the entire drawer pull. After applying the silver leaf, I rubbed some off to reveal a little of the black.
You can see I picked up some oval—egg shaped knobs for the doors. I don’t love them, but they will do for now.
I must be able to open the doors…because I have this baby filled up with my Silhouette supplies.
I got use to this right away. I feel like watching t.v. is less distracting with the dark colors as opposed to my former white media center.
I will need to do some decorating and touch up some painting, but nothing happens quickly around here.

As always, I enjoyed seeing your project and think the updated handles really improved the piece. As a side note, I am the last remaining original member of our Bunko (note we spell it with a k not a c) group that started 30 years ago so I was tickled to see that you play too.

Awesome!

It looks good. The silver handles pop against the black.

I got an office piece of furniture a couple of years ago on the cheap. I had plan to do something with it and sell it. But my mind has been blank. It has sat in my guest room for at least 4 years and my husband has grown quite fond of it!! Have you ever repurposed a credenza with a top on it. It is huge. I know I can paint it with the chalk paint but am wondering if there is anything else I can do. Thank you Charlotte Smith

Charlotte,
When you say "with a top on it" I'm guessing you mean a hutch, or some kind of cubbies? A picture would be helpful if you'd like to email me.
I'm sure you could take the top off, and use it for something else. It sounds like it's a really nice piece.

I scored a buffet that had some damage on the drawers. I took out a few drawers and replaced them with shelves.
then I sanded the drawer front, cabinet doors and top. I stained each of these complimentary tones and painted the case or box of the piece a linen white. I have to say it turned out awesome for $100.00.

Oh wow!
I love this. It turned out fantastic. Love the hardware...with the rub and buff, too.
For some reason, I thought you weren't keeping this piece...but I don't know where i got that idea. Of course you'd keep it! Look at it. Perfect place for the tv and a perfect place for the Silhouette supplies!

It looks beautiful Gail! I love that you did the handles with the rub and buff, it makes a huge difference, sort of brings it to life! How nice to have the wheels and all that storage must be great to have!

Your redo is fabulous Gail! I'm partial to black painted pieces and this turned out great. The silvered hardware is the jewelry it needed. I'm so excited you have something that you can roll and move! (okay a bit jealous too) Thank you for sharing such a great project Gail! Love it!!
Blessings, Edie Marie

I love buffets and dressers as media cabinets! This one is a beauty! And look at all that storage! Plus the wheels give it a cool industrial vibe and are totally functional too!
