Did you know you can make your own vintage jewelry pushpins from yard sale finds or granny's old jewelry? I was looking for some pretty push pins around the house for my Syroco memo board and I couldn’t find anything to use. Then, I found a small tin marked yard sale vintage jewelry. I have had it for years and I’m sure I tagged it so I would know it was yard sale jewelry, not family treasures from my mom.
Materials & Tools to Make Vintage Jewelry Pushpins
Vintage Jewelry (I used earrings with a post)
Thumb Tacks
Snap post off of earring
Using needle nose pliers, snap off the post of the earring. If you’re using clip-on earrings, a pendant, or a brooch, snap off anything that is in the way so that you can get a nice dollop of glue in place to hold the pushpin.
Apply Hot Glue to the back of the jewelry item
I used regular sized thumb tacks. I applied a large dollop of the Gorilla Glue hot glue on the back of the earring and placed the thumbtack on the earring.
Allow the hot glue to cool and set up
Use caution as the thumbtack will take on the heat of the hot glue. Allow the glue to set up before using your new vintage jewelry pushpin.
Enjoy your Vintage Jewelry Pushpins
I love my fancy new pushpins to go along with my new syroco memo board.
There are endless options for making pushpins out of vintage jewelry. I’ve also made unique pushpins out of scrabble tiles and vintage wooden checkers.
Have you made your own pushpins? I’m always looking for more ideas.

What a great idea, using old jewelry for push pins. And I love the color you used on the frame!

That corkboard deserves fancy thumbtacks; it's gorgeous. I can think of a few single earrings that I can use! Also, some pearl centered buttons with gold plastic filigree! What a great idea to add some class to a mundane item!

Thanks so much Kathy! I have a few more earrings in my stash to repurpose.
Happy crafting!

How does the Gorilla Glue sticks compare with regular glue sticks? Are they worth the extra expenses?

So fun! My sparkle loving daughter would love this for her cork board. Good thing our neighborhood yard sale is soon, this is an idea I would actually make. I have done a similar process with the polished river rocks from the dollar tree.

Love your fancy pushpins! I have used vintage earrings before for pushpins, magnets, and to decorate frames and vases.

What a great idea! I can't believe I never thought of it!

I love this -- it's such a great way to use 'odd' pieces of jewelry. I did this for my kitchen retro bulletin board and people always ask where did I get those unique push pins haha. I did NOT know Gorilla glue made glue sticks! Do you think they would work in place of E6000 for glass/porcelain as well?
