For those of you who do not know, I was given this fence. All I had to do was remove it.
The first thing I made from the fence was this rustic Americana flag for our Independence Day.
I showed you this rustic shelf I made out of some of the fence pieces. When I cut the pieces to size, I ended up with some “same size” old scraps.
Here they are just itching to become something fabulous!
I used one of my many new cull bin pieces of luan. I cut it to about ½ inch smaller than the scrap fence boards.
I used my new Gorilla Wood Glue, which by the way I love! Not only is it awesome glue, I love the easy flow bottle! The glue comes out so easily.
To clamp my boards I laid them on the luan and laid scrap pieces over top of them. I clamped the scrap boards to my work table. I sure would love it if Irwin would let me review or giveaway some clamps! *wink*
My new work table is a curb find from the same friend who let me have her old fence!
I sort of thought I might put “home sweet home” on it. (using my new silhouette that I just KNEW I was going to win last week.) I didn’t win, but I still would like to put something on it. I used the top part of one of the fence pieces to make this little “house”.
I’m sure I will be keeping this piece. (IF it turns out, if not, then it goes in the garbage) I wish I could paint artistically! I’ve always wanted to be able to paint. I once tried doing the Donna Dewberry, and I couldn’t even get that right!
Oh yeah, I made another very small piece with the temporary boards I used on the rustic shelf.
The large one is about 12 x 24. The small one is about 10 x 10.
I am open to suggestions! Do you like the “home sweet home” idea? Do you have a better idea? Do you have a great way for me to paint it on there so that it looks good? Do you like the house? What can I do with the little sign? Maybe my house numbers?
Thanks for you input and ideas!

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!

I am so jealous that you were given that fence - that is all kinds of yummy old goodness. You are making some fantastic projects out of it - YEAH! This is a super-cute sign.

Gail of coarse you need an ETSY account!!! I am so surprised that you said you didn't? WHAT? Ok, you and Donna from "Funky Junk" need to get together and have a "Dumpster Diving Scrap Party"

Actually I'm kind of partial to the smaller piece you made. Maybe with a doorknob or some kind of unique knob/hook. My fencing is still laying out in my yard, but you're inspiring me to pull it out and get busy. Thanks.

What about letters made out of twine or canvas/burlap? You could stencil them and cut them out or cut out cardboard letters and cover them with either.... ?

I like Granny's idea... that would be awesome... the trick to painting Gail is sand it off slightly then it doesn't have to look perfect... I can't draw to save my soul... but I can use a mean stencil like nobody's business.
I also like the school in session idea. I am sure whatever you decide it will look fabulous.

Boy you sure turned a sow's ear into a silk purse...3 or 4 silk purses in fact! I love your little house on the sign. You could hang it from a length of rusty chain. I like Granny J's idea of twigs for letters...maybe drybrush them with a little white paint to make them stand out.

i actually think the buliding looks like a little red schoolhouse, and there are tons of home schoolers out there, so maybe something that says "school in session" or something else school related would be cute. i love it- great idea!

The little one would be perfect for house numbers. I like the little house you made. Gather up some twigs and use them to make the letters for Home Sweet Home. You have that handy dandy nail gun to attach them to the sign board. Remember what you teach us? Think outside the box. š

These are awesome!! I love the little house you've made...You can always use stencils if you don't like freehand and that would look great. Home Sweet Home is cool or a line from a poem about home would be good too. I love what you are doing!!!
