Welcome to August! Silhouette has a new promotion for us, but first, I have a fun project to show you.
I had my logo on my rear car window for quite a while, but I wasn’t thrilled with the font, and it had .net instead of .com. I figured it was time to remedy that when Silhouette sent me some great Premium Vinyl. (for indoor/outdoor use)
My car had been sitting in the sun, so I moved it to the shade and washed the back window. ewwww it was pretty dirty!
While the car was cooling off, I got busy designing my project in the Designer Edition software. You can see that I have the rulers visible.
I cut the vinyl and weeded the oodles and boodles.
I placed the transfer paper on top of the vinyl letters and found the center and marked it.
It was time to find the center of the window. I marked it with some painter’s tape.
You can see that it was lined up perfectly on the center, but I needed to adjust it to make sure it was level.
To make sure it was level, I used the lines of my defroster.
I burnished my transfer paper to make sure it had a good hold of the vinyl.
I carefully removed the slick backing and allowed the transfer paper to hang by the hinge that I made with the painter’s tape.
I then carefully laid the transfer paper up on the window and burnished it down.
When I remove transfer paper, I like to fold it back on itself. I think it helps to not pull the letters off.
Slowly, I continue to remove the transfer paper.
almost there….
voila! doesn’t it look great? It’s the same font as my header logo.
I started to crop myself out of this picture, but keeping it real, I decided to leave it. It was hot, and I had my hair off my face and neck to try to stay cool.
I really do love it!

Love it Gail, I need to do this too!

I have thought about doing this for my blog or for my product site. My boys aren’t thrilled about having “Fix A Bra” on our car so I may follow your lead and just do one for my blog. Great minds think alike.lol
It looks great! I love your tutorials!
Looks great! (i for one am glad there are the lines on the back window to use for lining things up)
Looks great! So funny that you showed this today. I was thinking I needed to that to my truck.
Oh I love that! It looks awesome Gail. I guess you have to be a nice on the road now, next thing you know you’ll start getting emails from people you might of cut off lol I have never used the transfer paper, can’t wait to try it with my new machine 🙂
Great idea, Gail! I hope to do this one day, too, but I haven’t made the commitment to keep my car clean yet. 🙂
This is a great, inexpensive way for those of us who have small businesses to advertise our business! Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Gail. When you are finding the center of the word, are you just measuring from the outside edge of both ends of the phrase and marking it,, or using the dot with the ruler guide?
I am ashamed to say that I have a silhouette and it is still in the box. I need to take it out and learn to use it, but have a feeling of dread…I am awful at figuring stuff out. I get very impatient with myself. Although “KirbAppeal” would look great on my window!
Hi Kirby! You really should be playing with your Silhouette Cameo! I took some online classes from Kerry Bradford on using the Cameo and I learned a TON! Plus you have lifetime access to the classes, which was great because I couldn’t remember everything the first time. Hope you start playing with your Cameo soon!
It is very funny you did this today… Just yesterday I was driving down the road thinking that I should use my portrait to create a little logo bumper sticker for my car… I love yours and I think people will check you out. I actually looked up one I saw on the back of someone’s car once and found a paint dealer!
