I have a fun loaf pan planter project to share with you today. But more than just a loaf pan project, I will show you a fabulous way to make a twisted wire handle for your projects. My cordless drill twists the wire to make it heavier and much prettier! I love this winding wire technique and can’t wait to use it for more projects.
I bought these thrift store items a year ago at my local Vendors’ Village. Do you hoard stuff for so long that you almost forget about it?
Visit the My Repurposed Life Amazon Store to shop my favorite items.
I’m working in the basement shop to do this project. Crib end pieces were used to make little wooden feet for the repurposed loaf pan planter. I also used them to make numbered tags. I cut them on my small miter saw. When using old parts like this, be sure to check for pins, screws, and nails.
How to make a Loaf Pan Planter
I opted to leave the rim around the bottom of each wooden foot.
The brush applicator of the Gorilla Glue Super Glue makes applying the glue simple. I applied the super glue to each of the wooden spindle legs.
I used a socket set toolbox to weigh down the glued spindle feet.
How cute is my vintage loaf pan now? The feet AND that twisted wire handle really make it all come together. Want to know how I made the twisted wire handle? Watch the video below.
Materials to make a Twisted Wire Handle
- 19 Gauge Wire
- Needle Nosed Pliers (I like these for cutting the wire and manipulating it)
- Screw (to attach the folded wire)
- Drill
How to make a Twisted Wire Handle
- Cut the length of the wire, adding approximately 2 inches to the desired length of the handle
- Fold Wire in half
- Insert two loose ends directly into your cordless drill
- Hook folded end over a secured screw
- Engage drill into the forward direction, let the wire twist to your desired look.
- Remove the wire from the screw
- Cut both ends of the twisted wire handle
- Add to your basket, bucket, or project of choice
Now that you know how to make a pretty wire handle for your project, it’s time to see how I finished my loaf pan planter.
The loaf pan was covered with Buttermilk Paint from Heirloom Traditions. I used a chip brush .

Then it got the Smoked Glaze treatment inside and out.

I love the way the Smoked Glaze gives everything a uniform look.
The twisted wire handle was added by inserting it in the original holes of the loaf pan. I used the needle nose pliers to wrap it around.
Add a few plants, and voila! You have a sweet loaf pan planter. What else would you use this handy loaf pan for? Maybe organizing some spices in the kitchen? Something else?

i love it. i may have to use mine for something similar. and i really like the idea of using it for holding/organizing spices.
Jennie
This is so cute. It would be cute in a grand babies room, to hold baby lotion, butt paste, and other goodies that babies need by their diaper table. Maybe pink or blue.....

Cute idea Jennie!

OK I am so doing this as I have all the pieces except the wire. I can see it with flowers in it or decorated for holidays, in the bathroom holding rolled up wash rags, the ideas are endless. Another great treasure!

So many fun ideas Bonnie!
I was going to hold this project for next week, but go too excited and wanted to share it NOW. So I didn't have an opportunity to even think about all the great ideas.
