How to make a rope-wrapped chandelier candelabra
Turn a brass ReStore chandelier into a romantic rope-wrapped chandelier candelabra—an easy project using spray paint and inexpensive jute rope.
Cheap thrift store chandelier
I love buying inexpensive chandeliers at the ReStore! This is going to make the perfect rope-wrapped chandelier.

Let's see how this upcycled chandelier project came together.
Snip wiring to gut chandelier
I bought it to turn into a candelabra. To do that, it has to be gutted. I snipped the wiring to remove the parts.
The wires need to be removed from the other end. There is no way to pull them out from this end.
I have all the cups removed; now it's time to get into the thing's guts. Be sure to save all the pieces/hardware as you remove them!
Any lamps have many threaded parts. They all unscrew. More wire snipping is going on. Depending on your chandelier, you may or may not reassemble it the same way you dismantle it. Taking pictures will aid in figuring it all out when you're ready to put it all back together.
Look at that MESS! That is why I said you can't pull the wires through from the other end.
Reuse parts of the original chandelier.
After removing all those wires, I replace the socket part back onto the thread. You can see where I have already started bending it back and forth to break it. I've yet to find regular washers and nuts that fit these threads.
See? It snaps right off. This allows me to reuse this part.
I am using the original nut to hold the candle cup in place.
Paint the rope-wrapped chandelier with primer.
I painted the entire piece with two light coats of primer. Several light coats work a lot better than being heavy with the paint. Light coats of spray paint dry very quickly--be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions for dry and re-coat times.
After the primer dried, I painted it with glossy black spray paint, but I didn't take any pictures. I sent this picture to a friend, who mentioned that I might want to wrap it with jute/twine/rope.
How to wrap an upcycled chandelier project with rope
Great idea! You can see that I covered one of the candle cups with jute. I didn't love it. The amount of rope I had to buy was a lot. So I decided instead of just using the string to hang the light, I should also use it for wrapping. I used hot glue – gluing only rope to rope, trying not to glue it to the metal parts.
The finished project is a rope-wrapped chandelier!
Rope Wrapped Chandelier Hanging Outdoors
Enjoy your upcycled chandelier hanging on your porch. The candles give off such a romantic light!
This upcycled chandelier was sold at Glendale Crossing days, as was this brown candelabra from quite a while back. Maybe you prefer a chandelier for your patio using solar lights?

Gorgeous! For an outdoor porch or living area it would be perfect!

The jute rope looks neat, but it worries me if you light the candles...it would burn like dry straw! Be Cautious:)
Stephanie@cre8tive
Love all your pictures! Your getting good at that š

I love the rope! It turned out great.

I love looking at the things you've made. This is great but if used outside, the wind would probably blow the candles out. I've seen tin cans punched with designs made into candle holders. Bet those would look nice on this....very country/western themed.

Love the idea! Thank you for the inspiration...will try on what I have around here! My mom thought I was crazy when I wanted their old one and I knew there had to be something that could be done to revamp! ~Blessings!

Definitely re-pinning this!!! looks so good!

Ooo! I like the rope wrapped candelabra. I bet you come back with ZERO candelabras! Well, I hope you do.
This looks easy peasy. I have an old 70s, swag lamp with wrought iron word and a big red globe in the middle. Very "Spanish" or Mediterranean in style... I've often thought of wrapping the wrought iron with rope.
Getting ready to move them to separate rooms...so now might be the time to do that little project...

Gail, this is absolutely gorgeous. I might even try it and just leave the light fixture intact and maybe add shades or something ... I'm sharing on FB and Twitter. Thanks for the inspiration.
