Transforming a door into a corner shelf may be easier than it sounds if you are a little handy with tools.
Cut Door in Half to Make Corner Shelf
I helped my daughter redo her bathroom, and she got a new door. Her old door was very heavy and solid. I cut it in half vertically, added a 1x1 in the back corner, and glued and screwed it together.
You can use a circular saw, or a table saw to cut the door in half.
If you don't have a solid core door, you could easily use a set of bi-fold doors to get the same look as this project.
I made some shelves out of plywood, and added some trim down each side. I made some small cleats to support the shelves. If you don't like the raw edges of the plywood, there are a couple of methods to cover them.
You can use wood putty, and sand. Looking for something easy? You can buy some edge banding and iron it on the front of the shelf to cover up the raw edge. Thirdly, you can do what I did below--add quarter round.
Here, you can see I added a piece of trim at the top, and that quarter round to finish off the front face of the shelves.
I love the way it turned out, and it fits so nicely in the corner. It seems like such a natural fit for any small nook or corner you have.
