I’m an independent designer for Chalk Couture—I am also a huge fan of how easy our transfers are to use. Case in point, this easy scrap 2x4 Halloween decor or shelf sitter. I did a facebook live on this project.

Easy 2x4 Scrap Wood Halloween Project
Because I do a lot of wood projects, I have a lot of scrap 2x4’s. Doing a shelf sitter project like this only requires small sections of 2x4’s. I cut 3 square pieces on my miter saw. Then I measured those three pieces side by side to get the length of the longer piece. The base of the shelf sitter is 10.5” long.
Materials List:
- Scrap 2x4’s
- Paint
- Halloween Cut Apart Mini’s
- Chalk Paste
- Squeegee
It seems the Halloween Cut apart mini’s are no longer available, but this project could easily be done with other holiday transfers available in my shop.
Apply Chalk Paste
The first thing to do is so put the transfer on your surface and apply chalk paste with a squeegee. As you apply the chalk paste, it’s easy to get too much paste—simply scrape off the excess and put it back in the jar.
Nearly as quick as you apply the chalk paste, it’s time to remove the screen print transfer. You always want to remove the transfer before the chalk paste dries.
Use Chalk Couture Transfers Creatively
For the base of the Halloween shelf sitter 2x4 project, I chose to use one of the mini’s in three steps. Should you get a small amount of paste where it doesn’t belong, it’s easily wiped away with a clorox wipe.
The Trick or Treat is meant to be used as a one piece transfer. I used the top, middle, and bottom across the base of the shelf sitter. But wait! There’s more!
As you can see, I’m using another mini split up to embellish either side of the words Trick or Treat.
Do you love this project as much as I do? I painted my wooden blocks, but you could stain yours. Yes, I used all black chalk paste, but you could mix it up and do an orange pumpkin or something similar.
Here's a quick snapshot video showing the process:

Ohh, don't sell yourself short! scrap lumber can be made into so many great ideas. I'm always looking for inspiration everywhere I go. My creepy scary pumpkin head was inspired by one I saw at Home Depot!
