My nephew Bubba is about to get married to the love of his life, Anna. They are such a sweet couple, and I’m so happy for them. They are trying to turn Bubba’s bachelor pad into a home that reflects both of their personalities. Anna loves to cook and bake, therefore she has a lot of cookware and needs a place to store all of her things. Bubba had his eye on this hutch for almost a year at a local Peddler’s Mall. He and Anna finally decided to give it a new home.
I had to put it on a furniture mover (with plywood) so that I could maneuver it around during the many stages of it’s makeover.
The hutch was basically in great shape, but the color is all wrong for their kitchen.
I cleaned it out.
I gave it a light sanding all over.
I sanded the top really well so that I could get a nice coat of paint on it. When I sand heavily I use my blower to remove the bulk of the dust, then I wiped it down.
I used some of my favorite Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape to tape of the drawer with newspaper.
I also taped off the opening to the drawer.
I removed ALL of the hardware.
I used my Harbor Freight Sprayer to prime the hutch.
Bubba and Anna saw it with the primer on it and liked it a lot better already. What color do you think this hutch wants to be? Check back tomorrow for the rest of the story.

It IS looking good. Can’t wait to see if finished. So lucky to have an aunt with a sprayer and know-how!
Beautiful hutch,, I say white or black.. black is my favorite.
Oh! That is looking great! I can’t wait to see the final shot! Jen @ http://www.icantstopcrafting.blogspot.com
WHAT!?! Wait? No fair! My guess is that you will have some kind of wording or numbers added to it. 🙂
I think it already looks nice in the cream, but it really depends on what color their kitchen is. I think a muted tone is best for this style of hutch though 🙂
You should offer classes! If you weren’t on the wrong side of the country I’d sign up!

Hmmm… well, since you primed it with a white color…I’m guessing you’re going with White- or pale blue or green?
I can’t wait to see it finished either way, it’s going to look great!
Bubba and Anna are so lucky to have an Aunt Gail with such talent!

I think everything should be aqua, so that’s what I’m going to guess.
It’s a pretty hutch~great lines!
I just found your blog the other day, and I can’t wait to see what comes of this hutch! I have one from the 70s that I was going to sell, because I have no use for it, but now you have me thinking to do something with it! I might even put it in the bathroom of my new home and use it for linens 🙂
Typically I am a huge fan of “black” (which you might know from a lot of my projects), but I am going to say “red” again for this one. I’m sure that is not what was chosen, but it would be fun, wouldn’t it?! I love “hutch” transformations! Can’t wait to see the finished project!
Look good already but I say black

There are so many gorgeous colors of paint out there. I can’t wait to see what you paint it. Love it already!
I don’t know what color it should be, but I know it’s the cutest thing ever! I love the structure of it. I just know it’s going to be adorable when you get finished with it. 🙂
First let me say I’ve been trying to catch up on my reading… I LOVE your little fireworks; the shutter cupboard is beautiful and I can’t wait to see that hutch when it’s complete with your magic touch! You give me so many great ideas… oh if only I had the time to put them to good use!
