If you’re looking for patriotic decor, you’re in the right place. I’m joining some friends with a great collection of red white and blue decor ideas, including my new red white and blue chandelier project.

To highlight this collection of patriotic decor, I am sharing my new chandelier project. You may remember I recently made this same chandelier into a planter. You can read the details about how to gut, prep and paint a chandelier in that article.

So, this tutorial will show you just how to use less than $10 of items from the Dollar Tree to do a similar chandelier project for your porch or patio to show your love of the red white and blue.

Seriously, can you have too much Red White & Blue on a project like this? If so, just leave off the part that steps over the line.

Red White & Blue Chandelier Supplies

  • Several bunches of silk flowers
  • Bead necklaces
  • Sparkly red white and blue picks

For this project, of course the color theme was red white and blue patriotic decor, but this project could easily be done with wedding colors, a fall theme, the possibilities are endless.

How Hard is This Chandelier Project?

After you have the chandelier prepped (painted, etc) this is so incredibly easy. How easy? I’m awful with flowers, so awful, that I’ve never even made a wreath! I am definitely flower challenged!

I laid out a flour sack towel to protect the paint on the arms of the chandelier. You can see the candle cups are original–all I did was remove the bowls (with plants) and add these flowers from the Dollar Tree.

Some needle nosed pliers are just pliers. Mine have that little snipping section that allows me to quickly and easily cut the wire stems of the red white and blue flowers. Before snipping, I pushed the leaf sections up against the flower stem.

Insert Stems into the Chandelier Arms

With the first section, I gathered all 6 stems together and taped them. That was an unnecessary step. I found that just inserting each stem into the chandelier arm was sufficient. In addition, I realized that cramming in all six flowers was overkill. When I got to four stems, I liked the way it looked. So, some have four flowers, some have more.

Add Some Sparkle!

The chandelier has a small hole in the top (for the original wiring). This is where I placed the sparkly pics to add a little pizazz to my patriotic decor. Do you see the red and blue beads laying on the table?

Don’t Forget the Bling

Adding the red and blue beads was really fun. You can add less, or more. That’s the great thing about making your own red white and blue chandelier project–it’s totally customizable! I tried to keep the sections where the beads are joined hidden, but that’s nearly impossible.

More Beads

I didn’t want to forget the hanging chain! For this part of the project, I cut the bead strand apart. I wove the red and the blue beads in and out of the chain. Again, this is a step you could skip if you want. I think there were 5 or 6 necklaces in each package, so why not use them?
