I cut some scrap pieces into squares.

    100_9255

I used my router to trim the pieces.

    100_9257

I glued and screwed the bottom pieces to a 4x4 post.

For the top piece I used wood glue and my nail gun, because I didn’t want a screw to show.

100_9293I had some oops blue that was too bright. I added some brown to the blue, then I glazed it a little with some more brown.

Here it is on my pitiful porch that needs a little TLC. I was planning a porch makeover, but then mother nature decided it was time to work on the bedroom. See that little skunk? Check the last picture in this post to see where it grew up.

    100_9295

Look at that poor little skunk! Talk about a makeover! He definitely needs a new paint job this year.

    100_9435

I decided to “stage” it next door. See that cute little bear? I wanted one for years and years. While I was in Colorado with Jamie for her work in September 08 I found this at a roadside gift shop. I knew he HAD to come home with me!

    100_9437

Look at that face! Isn’t he just the cutest?

    100_9438

This color is exactly the color I had in mind. I can’t believe I was able to achieve it so easily. Originally I was going to paint the post grey. After priming it grey, I realized that my porch needs a little pop of color. Remember, this isn’t my porch. I like the color of this siding, that’s why I frequently stage my pictures here.

This was my inspiration. Check out Kenzie’s post here.

    100_9440

I really like the way she added the hook. I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to do. I was thinking of putting either my house number or my last name vertically on the post. Any opinions?

There, on the porch, do you see it? The skunk! It hung out on my Nana & Grandad’s porch ever since I was a little girl. Nope, that is not me. I actually don’t know exactly who that sweet little girl is. Granny J …. do you see the hens and chicks pot at the bottom of the steps? My Nana loved all kinds of flowers and plants.

Anywhooo, I plan to give my porch a makeover someday soon. It needs cleaning/painting and  some wind chimes need repair. So much to do, so little time!

    A couple of more pictures:

A snippet of what my bedroom looked like before I started on it Wednesday. The window where the TV is sitting is the window where I would like to move the bed.

100_9489The room is mostly empty and I started using primer on the knotty pine and the brownish orange window trim.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with ideas/suggestions about arranging my room. I really appreciate the ideas. My readers are the best!

LOve that you still have the skunk! I think house numbers... I like the hook, too...You might use door hardware and a knob, instead of a hanger...Love the color, too! LEzlee

You have a lot of work ahead of you redoing your bedroom and porch...you may need to wait on cooler weather for the outside....I think your porch looks fine for you to take your pictures for your post....the little skunk is cute but would look cuter with a paint job. God Bless Trish

Oh I love your new "post!" I also love the idea of numbers or your last name on the post. That is such an awesome idea! I want to make one of these so bad!

Oooh, I love the post! You made it look so easy! I would love to have one for my porch, unfortunately I don't have a router-- it would have to stay pretty 'blocky'. Oh well! 😉 Still super cute!!

Can't wait to see more room updates!

The 'knotty pine' will be really nice once painted. What color? White would be nice.
As for the little "welcome bear'... so sweet! I like the 'sign post' also.. A Router would be such a nice addition to my tool chest!

I like the post. It looks great with the little bear and would also look great with a potted plant or a tiny Christmas tree during the holidays. Another great project. I love that little skunk. I tried to make the picture larger to see the hen and chicks but it didn't work.

I told grampy I need a router but he said to just save my projects and bring them to your house. 😉
