This thrift store lamp refresh is my monthly project for the Thrift Store Team.
It's a free find from a family member. So, whether you have a thrift store lamp or you're looking for a fresh update for a lamp you already own, these tips will help you have a new look for your old lamp.
Small Thrift Store Lamp Makeover
This relatively small lamp is suitable for a side table or bedside. The shade looks like it overpowers the base, but that's just the angle of the photo.
This is our Thrift Store Day. Be sure to check out all the projects below.
Prepare Lamp For Painting
I chose my favorite angled paintbrush and Oxford All-in-One-Paint by Heirloom Traditions.

Instead of using painter's tape, I used a small artist's brush for the trim work.
Using a Hairdryer To Dry Paint
Being an impatient crafter, I used a hairdryer to speed up the drying process.
Add a Rub-on Transfer to a Lampshade
I added a rub-on transfer to up the game on this thrift store lamp refresh. Recently, I purchased a few smaller rub-on transfers on Amazon, so I got busy with the application.
I used the wooden stick to rub the transfer onto the lampshade while holding one hand on the underside to support the cloth of the shade. It was not as easy as it is to apply a transfer on furniture.
I found that the handle of my spurdle worked a little better, as it was easier to hold. It's personalized with "Mops," which is what my grandson calls me.
There are no directions suggesting a hairdryer, but it seemed to help the rub-on transfer setup.
Thrift Store Lamp Refresh (Before and After)
I got several lamps, so I was able to put two of them side-by-side for a before and after shot. I love how the lamp and shade turned out. So, the next time you shop, don't overlook a lamp because it doesn't fit your style.
I have a big tip for you: Pay attention to the placement of the lampshade on the lamp. It wasn't until I went to replace the lampshade that I noticed I applied the transfer UPSIDE DOWN. Lucky for me, the pattern is random, and when appropriately situated, it's not so noticeable. On the opposite side of the shade (in the photo above), it's very noticeable.
