Bathroom Wall Cabinet Makeover

Thrift store shopping can be a hit-or-miss situation. My friend had been looking for a second-hand bathroom wall cabinet for a while when she finally stumbled upon this cheap oak hanging cabinet for less than five dollars. She knew I would be up for the challenge of making it match her bathroom.

Yep, $4.92 for this beauty. It was mainly structurally sound.

Pin it for later.

The inside of the wall cabinet was dusty; the leaf blower was a great option for clearing it out.

Cleaning a Thrift Store Cabinet

After removing the doors, Surface Prep Wipes were used to clean and degloss the wooden wall cabinet.

Painting a Thrift Store Project

My friend requested a “dusty” blue, so I chose Irish Garden by All-In-One Paint. I have used Irish Garden on many thrift store projects. A small foam roller and a narrow, flat paintbrush are the best tools for painting a small project like this bathroom wall cabinet.

The Ugly First Coat

Two to three light coats of paint are the best way to get a beautiful, lasting finish. Therefore, your first coat will be a little ugly.

You should see some of the wood peaking through. This first coat of paint will allow subsequent coats to adhere well.

Painting The Inside of The Cabinet White

To brighten up the inside of the bathroom wall cabinet, I painted it white.

I reassembled the bathroom cabinet and installed the knobs on the doors.

Pretty Blue Bathroom Wall Cabinet

I delivered the cabinet to my friend and suggested she let it cure before hanging it.

Love it? Pin it!

She and her husband purchased new hinges, knobs, and magnetic closures.

I believe this cabinet has many more years of service ahead of it. When you get a great bargain on a thrift store project, spending a little more to complete the look is well worth the time and money spent.

    1. Caye,

As I said, that’s my favorite color. I have used it at The Hideaway for my wardrobe closet as well as a few tables I’ve done recently. I too, love how my friends changed the look of the old worn out cabinet with the new hardware.

    1. My friend looked for a solution for a long time. She had been using shelves on the floor, and that just wasn’t working out for her. She is finally happy now that she changed out the hardware.

      Thanks for stopping by Christy.
