Chicken wire memo center

On Monday’s I usually post my thrift store, yard sale, or curb finds. Today, I wish I could tell you about my bargain’s from last week, but I can’t! I picked up about $65.00 worth of Christmas presents for Jamie (daughter) for 90% off! I was doing a little shopping at my local Meijer store and came across the best bargains. They were in the process of marking things down. I kept picking up items and saying, “I’m sorry to bother you again, but could you tell me how much this would be”. I’m not a mathematical genius, but I can certainly figure out 90%. The problem was, the items didn’t have a price on them. So I had no idea what the original price was.
Later that day I went to Home Depot to get a few pieces of lumber. Now, mind you I went a couple of weeks ago and bought a 4×8 sheet of luan for the regular price. Because I work alone, I had them cut it in half to make it more manageable for me to cut on the table saw. So, on this day I look in the cull bin and what do I see??? Yep, you guessed it, a 4×8 piece of luan CUT IN HALF. Gee whiz! It had not been spray painted yet, so I had to ask how much it was. You could have knocked me over with a feather when the man said “$1.01” I practically ran to get me a lumber cart! I bought both pieces. I also got several pieces of 1×4’s for .51 cents each, and some mdf for $2.01.
Well, enough rambling, if you’re like me, you probably are only here for the pictures and haven’t read a single word I’ve typed! 🙂 But that’s okay, I know you’re really busy.
If you are a regular reader, you may remember my sad story about this broken window. When I removed the glass, I thought sure I would make it into a chalk board. But once I had removed all the glass, it just seemed that this little beaut wanted to be a memo center.
I ran across a small roll of chicken wire earlier this summer, and put it in my inventory. I love that I don’t have to buy this stuff! I bought some yardsticks from Joey’s booth at Peddler’s Mall for .96 cents.
This particular window had a double pane of glass in it. When I removed the glass, there was quite a large groove. I cut the yard sticks to width and length.
I spray painted them white, then aged them a little with some stain. That helped them match the window better.
I folded the chicken wire over the yardsticks and them shoved them up into the groove. I then stapled them in several places.
I decided that regular wooden clothespins just wouldn’t do, so I spray painted some clothes pins in a really pretty turquoise and purple.
I drilled a hole through the window, stuck the wire through the hole and curled it like I do the photo holders.
I really like the way it turned out, even though it didn’t sell at our show. I imagine that it could even be used for earrings.

You did a window to memo board and I did a screen to a bulletin board. Great minds 🙂
Love the chicken wire. It is so good to have almost as fun as burlap.
