In place of our monthly Furniture Fixer Upper project, I’m sharing a collection of my favorite hand-painted furniture makeovers from the team. I searched for colorful pieces to inspire you to break away from your regular neutral furniture paint.
Painting furniture by hand may seem daunting or too time-consuming. However, with proper preparation and paint, you can transform furniture like a pro without brush strokes.
Yes, I include using a paint sprayer as hand-painted. Occasionally, a problematic furniture piece may need a little assistance from a paint sprayer.
In the articles below, you will learn several techniques and tips to upcycle old furniture, whether for yourself or for flipping furniture.
Choosing only one favorite from each friend was difficult, so I specifically looked for their most colorful hand-painted furniture makeover.

It’s Furniture Fixer Upper Tour Day! Be sure to visit my friends’ projects at the bottom of this post.
Child’s Secretary Desk

Denise from Salvaged Inspirations found this sweet secretary desk at her local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. It’s child-sized, so that helped determine the overall color scheme. Denise will show you how to transform an outdated piece of furniture with paint and transfers. What’s my favorite aspect? The transfer and the drawer!
Painting a Hutch

Do you have trouble deciding on a color for your hand-painted furniture projects? Natalie from A Ray of Sunlight was looking for a nice blue paint for this hutch. She devised a system of mixing paint colors to get the right shade of blue. Do you ever mix colors? If so, check out Natalie’s tips in her article Painting a Hutch. What is my favorite tip in this article? It’s all about painting oak furniture and the wood grain!
How to Add Color to Hand-Painted Furniture

Sometimes, the best bargain furniture pieces may not look the best. But Christy from Confessions of a Serial DIYer knows a bargain when she sees one. At only $10, this dresser wasn’t as cheap as expected. There were a few issues with the drawers. No worries, Christy was able to fix them. My favorite part about this makeover? Christy will show you how to add color to hand-painted furniture with paint and transfers.
Using Latex Wall Paint on Furniture Makeovers

Petticoat Junktion’s Kathy uses many paint types when transforming her hand-painted furniture pieces. For this antique radio cabinet, Kathy used Valspar Latex paint. My favorite part of this project is the color and the inside of the cabinet. I love how Kathy lined the shelf. She is also very talented when it comes to distressing.
Colorful Hand-Painted Table

Do you tend to avoid bright-colored hand-painted furniture projects like I do? If you’re a furniture flipper, you probably think selling a lovely neutral-colored table is easier. Sometimes, I let the furniture speak to me, as in the case of this antique wooden plant stand table. It was set out with the garbage at a neighbor’s home. The fond memories of the elderly lady brought happy colors to mind. I think you will enjoy the story of this three-tiered plant stand.

Your cabinet is sooo pretty Kathy. My sample of Naples (yellow) is all gone.
