Double Chair Bench update

A while back I blogged about a project fail, a double chair bench. It started with these two chairs.
These orphan chairs are perfect to make a double chair bench!
Double Chair Bench | Headboard Back
I took the chairs apart and made a box and added planks. You can see that stuff in the post 2 chairs + 1 bench = failure.
Make a Back for the Bench
I picked up a few more 1×4’s and cut them with my jigsaw. I clamped each board to the back of the double chair bench and drew a line to match the curve.
Attach Back Boards with Nail Gun
I used my nail gun to attach the back, and then drilled pilot holes and screwed them in place. Without pilot holes, the screws would split the boards due to being so near the edge.
I think I love the curve of her back.
Paint Double Chair Bench with Paint Sprayer
It’s been warm, so I was able to use my Homeright Finish Max to spray a base coat of turquoise over the existing black.
Add a Glaze or a Dark Wash
After the turquoise dried, I used some black paint watered down to do a dark “glaze” over the turquoise.
Calling this little lady done.
It took extra work, but at least I like it now. Do you?
Thanks so much for all the great comments on the original post. It had never occurred to me that this could be a bench for plants. I wonder what her new owner will do with her. She’s currently residing in my newly revamped booth.

I cannot believe how much difference a change in paint colour made! It looks fantastic!! and that new back is much better than the first. I love this piece.

That extra work paid off! This is the best bench yet. Hope it brings lots of mooo-la.
Way to go, Gail! I hate redoing things but it really paid off here!
I love it! The original was nice but this version is fabulous.
Ooh! I like! 🙂
Beautiful update Gail! I love those curves!
Fantastic! I love it.
Oh Gail, she is simply stunning! The lines and gentle curves, exquisite!
I was thinking of you the other day when I passed a house with old headboards and chairs out front! I promised Chris no more supplies in until I finish up the projects I’ve been working on…. which is why I took a blogging hiatus as well. Life has been filled with non-bloggy events which are my priority right now. 🙂 Not bad stuff, just stuff I am not compelled to write about or have been asked not to write about.
Have a wonderful day! And enjoy the lovely weather!! 🙂
I liked your original design, but the new finished bench is exquisite! Love it!!
Great bench Gail! I love the color especially… the curved back was genius! Good save!

Gail! What a great comeback! I loved where the previous bench was going, but this is soooo lovely! I’ve had failures, in my eyes, and went back later and could see just what I wanted to change. As a matter of fact, I just went through that with my recent bed makeover. You can see it on Frugal Treasures party #4, it took a lot of work to get it like I want it and still thinking of adding some little tweaks. lol Hope you have a great week.
Gail, I love it! All the extra work was totally worth it- and I love that wash of turquoise! So chic. I’m trying to be better about commenting – but wanted to let you know I’m a follower and visit daily! xoxo, Artie
