Easy Fall Centerpiece Using a Thrifted Basket
This thrifted basket fall centerpiece began at one of those peddler mall stores. You know the ones where people rent booths and sell everything from food to clothes and furniture. I tried my local Shirley’s Deals, but I couldn’t find anything.
Thrift Store Basket

Actually, I started out looking for an oblong wooden bowl. After just a couple of aisles, I spotted this cute basket on a top shelf. The sign in the booth read, “50% off.” So, the four-dollar basket was a deal at only 2 bucks!
It is some sort of plastic material, but I loved the size and shape and knew right away it would be perfect for this month’s Thrift Store Decor Project, an easy fall centerpiece. Please visit my friends’ projects shared at the end of this article.

Fall Basket Centerpiece

Shopping at the Thrift Store for Seasonal Decor

I wasn’t looking for anything too specific. I just wanted a few inexpensive fall pieces I could mix with things I already had at home.
These are the supplies I found at the thrift store for my fall basket centerpiece. Nearly everything was on sale. All of these autumn decor pieces totaled less than $10.

Before buying anything else, I went through the fall decor I already had. That helped me keep this centerpiece inexpensive and gave me several pieces I could reuse.

I began by separating and evaluating the pieces that had been in the metal vase shown in the shopping cart. It was on sale for $4. What do you think I should do with the metal vase?
DIY Wood Slices

I keep these DIY wood slices I made handy for elevating decor pieces. I used them for my gingerbread house display last winter.
Raising one candle just a little kept the two candles from looking too even and added more dimension to the centerpiece.

A bag of colorful pumpkins and pinecones will be a great addition to my thrifted basket.

Instead of forcing the whole stem into the basket, I pulled off individual leaves and tucked them wherever I needed a little color.

I’m not sure where I got these loose-leaf silk pieces. I found them very helpful for filling in gaps in the DIY fall centerpiece.
Arranging a Simple Fall Centerpiece Basket
I started with the candles because they were the largest pieces. Then I tucked the small pumpkins around them and filled in the open spaces with fall leaves, berries, and pinecones. I didn’t glue anything in place, so I can easily take it apart and reuse everything later.

I used one of the trunk-like wood slices to add height to the smaller candle. You may notice in the after pictures that I switched this candle for a wider one.

I’m really glad I picked up the bag of miniature pumpkins. I like the variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. The pinecones were from my stash.

Thrifted Fall Centerpiece With Candles

I’m pretty happy with how this little $2 basket turned out. Most of the filler came from the thrift store or my own stash, and nothing is permanently attached. That means I can easily take it apart, reuse the same basket for Christmas, and then change it up for another season later.
