There are many ways to repurpose old chairs, however this garden chair may be one of the easiest and pretty ways.

Paint Garden Chair a Bright Color

yellow garden chair I am usually not a fan of yellow. But I was getting tired of my regular “oops” colors and splurged on a pint can of yellow! It seems like there are never any yellow hues of paint at our HD. Lots of hues of oranges and browns, though.

My uncle had been very sick and was unable to “dress” up his yard this past spring, so the family had a “planting party”. Everyone was supposed to bring something to plant, or some mulch. I couldn’t decide what to take, so I settled on making a garden chair.

I can’t remember if I bought this chair, or if it was a curb find. The local Peddler’s Mall that I go to, I can usually get a chair for under $5.00.

Staple Screen to Seat

The screen was a curb find. After stapling the screen, I stapled some of the black weed blocking material, (to keep the soil from washing through the screen). I have to tell you that the black material was also a curb find! Sometimes it pays to hang on to stuff.

I got the little birdhouse and the birdie at one of our dollar stores. The moss was purchased at Meijer, but since have found out you can get that at the dollar store also. I used hot glue to hold the moss in place.

I am sad to say that my Uncle Roscoe passed away a couple of years ago. He was a very kind, and loving man. We all miss him very much.

  3. Hi Gail…

My friend, I am so sorry to hear about your Uncle’s passing…but I’m just sure that you’re beautiful, sunny yellow garden chair really brought him cheer and happiness!!! It’s such a beautiful shade of yellow…definitely sunny and cheerful! I love how you used the screen, etc. so that you could add your pretty plantings right on top of the chair. I haven’t ever seen it done that way…always just adding a pot to sit on the seat or the seat cut out and fitting a pot down into that area. I love this idea!!! I really like how you added the moss around the flowers too! Ohhh…and that darling birdhouse and sweet little bird…was like the “icing on the cake” for me!

Thank you so much for sharing your sweet garden chair that you made for your Uncle with us today for Sunday Favorites! I also think that what your family did…doing a “planting party” is a such a great idea! I’m just now thinking what a great project this would be for our youth group to do for some of the seniors in our area! Just a tremendous idea!!!

Have a super Sunday, my friend!!!

Great ideas. I would have never thought of using weedblock (of which we many rolls. Ours is the higher end Costco stuff but it should work just as well.
