I love all of the Finish Max products, but for big projects, the Homeright Finish Max Pro is the best option. It’s more lightweight because the motor is separate of the spray gun. My niece Leann and I made a deal. I needed some old fence boards for my Etsy shop, and she wanted a new fence. I got a great deal on some new boards, and she is carefully taking down the old boards and saving them for me. Then the nice folks at Thompson’s WaterSeal offered me a chance to try out their new waterproofing stains. They have 5 colors and each come in
- Transparent (Provides complete outdoor wood protection by adding subtle color)
- Semi (Adds beautiful color while still allowing some wood grain to be seen)
- Solid (Hides the wood grain while allowing wood texture to show)
So, off I went with my HomeRight Finish Max Pro to tackle Leann’s fence. I don’t remember exactly how many sections of fence she has, but she’s been slowly replacing the boards whenever she gets the time. I of course love the look of the perfectly weathered gray boards.
Leann chose Acorn, in the Transparent finish. I have my trusty Finish Max Pro all ready to make this job a breeze! It’s great for all paints and stains, but because the Thompson’s WaterSeal is water based, it sprayed great and cleanup was easy too!
Using an extension cord, the power cord and the hose on the Finish Max Pro allows me to reach all the way down the front sections of fence. I started on the left and worked toward the right. Leann chose not to replace the 2×4 cross boards, and I like the way the Thompson’s WaterSeal helps all the boards match better, even using the Transparent option.
Leann got in on the action too! She chose to do the wide horizontal spray option for the vertical boards, then spin the nozzle around to do get a vertical spray to do the cross boards. The Finish Max products all have an adjustment that will spray a pattern from 1-6”.
I keep a chip brush in my Finish Max bag—it really comes in handy if I have drips. I just kept it in a tub of water and shook it out if we got too close to the fence and got a run. The Thompson’s WaterSeal is a great consistency for spraying. It does say “do not thin”.
Look how great the fence looks, and how there is very little stain on the grass! That’s my favorite part about the Finish Max products, so little over spray! TIP: The Finish Max Pro comes with two paint cups. We tag teamed this job. While someone was spraying, someone else was filling up the empty cup with stain. It really was a time saver!

This would be a great win! Our summer jobs include fence repair, two new gates and Lord willing a new deck! Our current deck is too small to enjoy with friends! Thompsons stain is on all three job lists.
Our deck is in desperate needed of a new coat of waterproofer. We’ve been putting it off because it’s so labor intensive. This handy dandy little machine might just be the answer we’re looking for! Fingers crossed!!
I am looking forward to tackling my fence!
Great article. Appreciate the step by step instructions and photos. Have a huge deck that needs to be refurbished. What an awesome tool to bring a big job down to size.
Awesome job! I have a fence that needs to be stained and sealed. Have put it off forever, dreading the job. I think this sprayer is the ticket to getting the job done! 🙂
I would use the Homeright Finish Max Pro for all my DIY furniture and other projects. I have two cabinets, glassware, two end tables, and frames lined up; sure would be a timesaver! Plus, I love the quality spray – beautiful coverage. I especially like the spray width capability to customize to my needs.
Got my fingers crossed for this one! =)
We are refurbishing our gazebo, as well as several pieces of furniture. This would be very handy!
We are replacing our fence this summer also. We’ve got some of it up and are just waiting for the wood to dry out before we stain/seal it. We also have plans to paint the exterior of our home. The list goes on and on. This handy dandy sprayer sure would make it a lot easier and faster!
I inherited an old shed with the house we bought. I have had it moved to a more suitable location in the yard and now it’s visible to all who drive by. This shed needs a facelift and a hairdo and the Finish Max is just right for the job. Pleeeeeeeeeeease?
I have 6 chairs and a farmhouse table to refinish, and have been thinking about getting a paint gun. Would love to win this! 🙂
I have a Deck that goes the length of the back of my house and a Deck around my pool. This would be perfect. Pick Me !
We have a wrap around porch/deck that desperately needs stained – this would be the lifesaver to get it done this summer!
