I picked up this little lady from Craig’s List for $20.00. Yes, it is well over my $5.00 limit. This is the actual picture from Craig’s list. I got this when I very first started junkin’. Also, I knew I was going to make two projects, and I thought they were both going to be for me. My $5.00 limit is flexible if the purchase is for my own personal use, or for a gift.

How to turn sewing machine drawers into a cabinet

repurposed sewing machine drawers into a table I dismantled the wooden parts from the chassis. That in itself was not an easy task. There are many screws holding all of those pieces together. I had a piece of curbed wood that I used for the top. That piece of wood determined the size of this piece. I cut a piece of plywood and routed the edges to match the top. This is the dry fit, making sure that everything was going to work. As it turned out, I decided not to use the piece of bead board that you see in the back in these pictures.

IM000478I used some scrap bead board pieces to “box in” the cubby portion. You can see in this picture that some of the wooden appliques have fallen off.

Add legs and you have a new table with storage

how to repurpose old sewing machine drawers
I used some table legs, that I had to cut down a little. (they were too tall). The four drawers slide in and out very easily.

I was very lucky to find a basket to fit the cubby so perfectly. I was able to glue on most of the appliques. One of the pieces had been lost and not included when I got the machine. That would be Matt laying there under my new table! I think he was looking for his lady friend  Kitty. (I’m a fan of Gunsmoke)
UPDATED to add:  I redid the top of this table with a faux leather paper bag technique
