Repurposed Headboard photo Display Sign
Last fall my nephew Kevin gave me these two pieces, a headboard and a foot board. I really didn’t know what I was going to do with them. A few weeks ago, I gathered some items (which included one of these) to take to the basement shop so I would have something to work on during the cold weather.
Patch Hardware Holes on Headboard Project
I sanded the headboard to remove the shine and filled the holes with spackling, then a little wood putty.
Paint Headboard Photo Display Sign

Then, I painted the photo display sign black.
Add Coat Hooks and Clips

The clipboard clipsare very strong and difficult to attach without an extra hand. I struggled through it, but it was definitely a challenge. I bent one, then attached two, and ended up removing them moving them higher.
Don’t you love the way they curve with the top of the board? (note: clipboards do not come with screws)
I added some coat hooks to the bottom, but I felt like the photo display was missing something. (besides pictures!)
Design Words for Photo Display Sign
I designed a phrase in my Silhouette Studio. The font is LoosieScript. I’ve also been working on tracing/cutting out jamie’s work logo. It’s really amazing how you can upload and TRACE!
awwww, that’s better! Those are jamie and andy’s engagement photos.
What do you think about the clipboard clips? Better than the bulldog clips? This photo display sign will be for sale, and I can see that it could be very helpful for a busy family—think school notes etc, with backpacks ready to go!
I have one more, what do you think I should do with it?

I agree with you that the clipboard clips go better with it than the bulldog clips.
You always have the most creative ideas….love this one!
Don’t know if you will see this, as it is now August, 2012… but, I have two headboards just like yours and was so stumped what to do with them! Now I know! Thank you for the fabulous idea!! Also, for your other one, maybe do it in another color and use the same hooks as you used on the bottom for the top and hang old wooden clothes hangers on them to hold pictures. The kind that were used for slacks, tableclothes, etc… I love your blog, you are one smart cookie!!! Desiree Siegel tdsiegel@hotmail.com
You keep coming up with amazing pieces. I hope you keep a running catalog. Then you can pick it up whenever you like and think…. oooooh that one was really great… and that one…. and that one….
But, I guess that is what your blog is for!
I love this repurpose, the hooks on the bottom are just perfect! This would make a perfect inspiration board in my craft room 😉 those clips could hold fabric swatches too….oh the possibilities.
This is so clever! I love that it doesn’t look anything like a head board now. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love it Gail. I have a few headboards in my basement – this looks like a fun thing to do with them.
You mention that you might sell it. Where do you sell your things??

I NEED to find some old headboards! This project is just too cute! I would love it if you stopped by to share this at my linky party going on right now:)

Love this all purpose memo board! It can be used for so many things, I pinned it of course 🙂
Very cool and clever too! Love those clipboard clips!
I have not tried the “Upload and Trace” with my Silhouette! I will have to try that!!
I like the curve of the (headboard) piece. I think I could see this best in a mud room / entry way. I think it would definitely need to be installed on studs.
With the other one you could make a “Daybed” for a pet or simply make another “clipboard” (especially if this one sells quickly!)
You could use chalkboard paint behind the picture area in case someone would want to jot a quick note. You could easily add a chalk or pencil holder by using a piece of molding (or a cup hook and a string).
I know you’re not crazy about magnetic paint, but you can get magnets, glue them on, and use other magnets instead of the clipboard clips.
Just the few ideas that came to me as I was typing this!
Great job (as usual)!!
I really like the clipboard clips! I like the whole project~it’s great looking and I think it would be really useful for a busy family, too.
As for the footboard~I think it would make a great back for a bench. Or it could be a cute dollbed. I’m sure you’ll do something fabulous with it!
