Repurposed Drawer Front Hook Rack

I have a great repurposed drawer front hook rack project to share with you today and I want to tell you that I am joining with 8 other terrific bloggers who want to inspire you to create your own Salvage Style.

I attached old door knobs to this repurposed drawer front to make a great coat rack that will not only decorate your space, but help you stay a little more organized. It can hold coats, jackets, jewelry or even use it in your bathroom or kitchen to hold towels. .

Repurposed Drawer Front
I was given these terrific antique dresser drawer fronts. Oh how I would love to have the furniture these were part of.
Vintage Doorknobs
I’ve been looking for some vintage doorknobs for a while. I found this lot on Ebay—which ended up running me about a buck apiece.
Small Dowels
This baggie of small pegs or dowels has been hanging out in my stash for years. They really come in handy for this type of project. 
I used my drill gauge to measure the peg so I will know what size drill bit to use on the drawer front.
Insert Small Dowel into Vintage Doorknob
After inserting the dowels into the stem of the doorknob, I drilled the correct size hole where each of the knobs had been in addition to a third one in the center of the board.

Then I did a dry fit with the doorknobs to see how it was going to look.
PolyShades Stain
I took the easy way out and used some Polyshades Mission Oak to give a fresh seal on the old, dry wood using one of my favorite cheap chip brushes.

Repurposed drawer front, so handy for a few scarves, jackets or even towels in the bathroom!

Sooo cool, I learned another trick Gail! The dowels in the door knobs? Brilliant! I love the look the polyshades gave it, so beautiful, I may have to try it!
Perfect repurpose. And a drill gauge?? Now that is a novel concept–much better than the eyeball method I use!
You just blew my mind with those dowels! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run into the knob problem, and that is such a perfect solution. I also love how the Polyshades worked on this and I agree, the glossy finish is beautiful!
Love it. But how did you attach the knob on the backside….did you put a screw into the peg?

The peg fits very securely into the hole of the drawer front. The drawer front is much thicker than most. I’m not sure, but I probably used some Gorilla Wood Glue for good measure. 🙂
