Tickled Pink Kitchen Table Makeover

I love a great kitchen table makeover!I bought this table recently at Tickled Pink, my newest thrift store. I did go over my normal $5.00 limit on this piece. If you read my blog often, you know I rarely spend over $5.00. That rule is for items that I repurpose or redo for resale. If I pay over $5.00 for something, it makes it difficult to make a decent profit. Since this table was a personal purchase, I blew the budget totally. I had been searching for just the right table for a while, so when I found this I had to move quickly.
Have I piqued your curiosity? This baby set me back a whopping $25.00.
I did a lead test on the table. This is a very easy lead test check. You can enter to win one of these along with other great 3M products on my post 3M Product Giveaway post.
It showed up negative.
This is after I stripped the paint off of the table. You can see that I haven’t started on the leaf yet. I used Zip Strip brand stripper. It worked pretty well.
After I used the stripper on the table top, it still needed some sanding.
Be sure to use your head when you “do it yourself”. I wear a respirator when I sand, and you should too!
Hindsight 20/20 I’m not sure that I should have stained the top because some of the paint was down into the grain.
After I got the top sanded down, I started to do some repairs. I love Gorilla Wood Glue for repairs.
I painted the base of the table and the legs with Sweetened White by Dutch Boy.
When I went shopping for some new stain, I knew I wanted a dark stain. I’ve been staining a lot of dark walnut, but it has a slight reddish tint, and I didn’t want that. I chose Jacobean from MinWax. I use plastic utensils to stir my stain.
I applied 2 coats of stain . . .
. . . and several coats of wipe-on poly.
The table is in my kitchen, but I don’t have my chairs finished yet. I’ll show you when I get it all put together in the kitchen.
I LOVE the look of dark wood and white paint! Are you a fan of it too?
I am UPDATING this post to show you the table in my kitchen.
I have collected four chairs from various sources. The chair on the left is mammaw’s chair. The chair on the right belonged to my sister. The two chairs in the front and back belonged to my cousin KayLee. I love the mismatched look.
It’s a small table without the leaf, but it’s perfect for me!

You did an awesome job Gail! You deserve to spend a little extra on yourself! I love the shape of the table and the base of it.
Gail, I LOVE your $25 table. I’m really loving the dark stained top and painted bottoms tables I’m seeing. My Aunt says that’s called California chic, no idea. Anyhoo, I’m, thinking I MIGHT have to try this same look on my farm styled dining room table. Thanks for showing your beaut : )
Look at you! Becoming such a big spender LOL Still a great price, even if it is $20 over budget, you deserve it. I love what you did with it, it looks totaly different now and so beautiful.
Love the dark stain! I always enjoy seeing and reading about your great finds!
