Broken mirror? No problem, turn that mirror frame into a chalkboard. This mirror frame chalkboard came about after I was given a pretty mirror—the mirror was broken during transport. The mirror frame was too pretty to toss, and buying a new mirror was not in the budget. Add spray paint and chalkboard paint and the old mirror became a beautiful chalkboard!

I’ll admit I was sad when I opened the tailgate to find out that the mirror had broken in this cute frame. It’s been waiting for it’s makeover for quite awhile. In fact I got it at the same time I got this Black & Gold Framed Mirror. Funny that both of these projects will be available at Glendale this year!

    Spray Paint Mirror Frame

For this quick and easy mirror frame makeover I wanted to try this WATERFALL chalky spray paint I purchased on clearance. The color of the cap is pretty, but oh my! I had no idea just how pretty this color was until I started painting!

I hung the mirror frame on the fence to let it dry thoroughly as I got busy painting the chalkboard.

You can tell I’m a true “creative” by how messy my paint table is! I chose to use my Super Finish Max Extra and Rust-o-leum Chalkboard Paint to get a smooth easy finish on the masonite board that held the original mirror in place in the frame.

Use a Paint Sprayer with Chalkboard Paint

Can you tell how much I love this paint sprayer? I leaned the board up against my easy diy sawhorses. I prefer spraying items in a vertical position to get the best coverage. Immediately after applying the paint I moved the thin board into the garage and laid it flat on the floor to keep it from bowing in the heat of the sun.

Protect Mirror Frame Chalkboard with Clear Sealer

    spray paint sealer

I’m a huge fan of Amazon, and purchase many of my supplies there. I bought several cans of spray sealant and I’m at the end of my supply. It might be time to pick up some more. I like having things like this on hand for quick projects. Even though it says gloss on the can, I don’t think it truly added much shine. I mostly sprayed the sealant for added protection on the paint.

The smooth finish of the chalkboard paint sprayed with the paint sprayer is so awesome! No brush strokes!

    Decorate Chalkboard with Chalk Paste

If you have pretty handwriting skills, you’re finished with your new mirror frame chalkboard. I however, can’t decorate a chalkboard at all. That’s why I love using Chalk Couture Transfers from the Junky Chalker. It only took a few minutes to change up this plain chalkboard into a piece of artwork!

mirror frame chalkboard with Chalk Couture Transfer MyRepurposedLifeThis mirror frame chalkboard is much larger than it appears. It measures a whopping 22” x 34”! Don’t you think it looks so much better with it’s new improvements. Don’t be in a big hurry to throw something out just because it is broken. This easy mirror makeover can be done without any power tools. You could use brush on chalkboard paint or even  chalkboard spray paint.

I’m really getting excited for Glendale!
