vintage buffetI showed you how I refurbished this old buffet into my new media center in my post Vintage Buffet Repurposed to Media Center

buffet-media-center-afterThis is how it looked when we last saw it. If you recall, I didn’t have it in the house yet. Well, I did get it in the house before my Bunco party last week. I had help getting it in the house, but I took out the old media center all by myself. THAT was a job!

adding-wheels-to-buffet-media-centerBefore I brought it in, I added wheels to it. After having the other media center in place for so many years and NOT being able to move it—I wanted to be able to move this one in order to clean, etc.

drill-hole-paddle-bitI had forgotten to drill a hole in the back for the cords. I used this 1 1/4 inch paddle bit and drilled it in the center, near the shelf, so that it’s not visible once the cable box is placed here.

using-a-raspAfter getting it in the house, I noticed that one of the doors was sticking really bad. I tried to take care of it with a rasp… but after making a huge mess, I ended up taking the door off to sand it outside. I had to sand a lot off, and it still sticks a little.

buffet-media-centerHere it is in the living room. It is sooo difficult to get a good picture of black furniture. The black hardware sort of gets lost on the piece, don’t you think? I borrowed  a couple of glass knobs (temporarily) from the tower of terror.

rub-n-buff-silverI had spray painted the original hardware black, but decided to buff it up, with some Rub ‘n Buff. See that little dot of silver leaf on my glove? That was enough to do the entire drawer pull. After applying the silver leaf, I rubbed some off to reveal a little  of the black.

vintage-buffet-black-media-centerYou can see I picked up some oval—egg shaped knobs for the doors. I don’t love them, but they will do for now.

craft-storage-buffet-media=centerI must be able to open the doors…because I have this baby filled up with my Silhouette supplies.

black-tv-standI got use to this right away. I feel like watching t.v. is less distracting with the dark colors as opposed to my former white media center.

black-media-center-repurposed buffetI will need to do some decorating and touch up some painting,  but nothing happens quickly around here. Smile

  1. This looks great! I just got a piece (well, picking it up monday) that I intend to redo and use as an entertainment stand too! I hope it turns out as great as yours did!!

  2. It looks beautiful Gail! I love that you did the handles with the rub and buff, it makes a huge difference, sort of brings it to life! How nice to have the wheels and all that storage must be great to have!

  3. Your redo is fabulous Gail! I’m partial to black painted pieces and this turned out great. The silvered hardware is the jewelry it needed. I’m so excited you have something that you can roll and move! (okay a bit jealous too) Thank you for sharing such a great project Gail! Love it!!

    Blessings, Edie Marie
