This twin spool bed bench is easy to make in a weekend!
Spool beds are difficult to find, but if you get a sturdy one, this bench should be on the top of your list of things to make!

My friend Cathy and I picked up this twin spool bed last year. I'm sure it was at the peddler's mall, but it's hard to remember.
We built the standard box, however we attached the legs to the outside of the box. (one of the many things we've learned along the way) The legs came from a very rough curbed bunk bed. We made the seat out of hardwood flooring. A friend of mine gave me tons of flooring, it has really come in handy. We sanded the poly shine off of it.
When we first started making headboard benches, we would install the legs inside the corners. Putting the front brace from side to side on this twin spool bed bench, with the legs on the outside definitely gives the bench a more finished look.
We painted this the most delicious "chocolate" brown. It reminds me of a melted Hershey bar!
Over the years, I've changed how I make headboard benches. See my favorite Mission Style Headboard Bench with Storage-The Complete Tutorial

why is outside box better than inside it for legs?

Barb,
When the legs are on the inside, the bench may tend to be "tipsy" if it's not deep enough. (from front to back). If you make the seat deep, you can definitely make it easier on yourself and box the legs in on the inside. I did that in the beginning. Putting them on the outside corners gives them a more finished look-in my opinion. š
