Door Repurposed into a Toddler Bed

I had two doors. It wasn’t really planned use a repurposed door to make a toddler bed.

I was going to use them to make a book shelf, using one door for the back of the shelf, and the other door ripped vertically for the two sides. Cathy convinced me that it would be too heavy that way. That’s what I like about what I do, you can usually change your mind, because it’s your own design.

Prepare repurposed door

chippy old repurposed door  This door had so many layers of paint that it took me forever to get all the paint off. I used a stripper. The one I used only removes one layer of paint at a time. I’m surprised I didn’t give up on this door and the one I made into a book shelf. See the Red Door Bookshelf here.

weathered chippy door  I purposely left this door out in the weather, thinking that would help. Had I realized how many layers of paint were on this door, I don’t think I would have continued.

Primer and Paint repurposed door

I do not have pictures of the stripped door. I suppose I was too sick of working on it. This side has a couple of coats of pink primer and a couple of coats of red oops paint. At this point I decide not to use it for the book shelf. I mulled it over for a couple of days before I decided for sure what I wanted to do.

Cut door down to size for headboard and foot board

repurposed door (bed) This is how I design stuff. I have the headboard and foot board propped up and the mattress sitting on some paint cans. These are the things you have to do when you work alone. Isn’t that pink primer sweet? hehehe Reminds me of Pepto Bismol.
