    Small DIY Easel Project

These small easels made from repurposed curtain hooks are the perfect way to display small items. It's so easy.

See the Easy Santa Coasters here.

oops! Were you looking for wooden easels? Small wooden easels, or Large wooden easels?

    Supplies to Make Small Easels

The list of items needed for this DIY is very short. You will need a small needle nosed set of pliers, and curtain hooks.

How to Repurpose a Curtain or Drapery Hook

First, start by marking your hooks across, so that all of your "bends" will be at the same point. If you don't have any drapery hooks, they are available on Amazon!

    Buy Drapery Hooks HERE!

    Bend Each Drapery Hook Prong

    how to small easels

I bend the outer prongs to the front, and the inner prongs to the back.

The prongs I use in the front get an extra little bend in them in an up position, which helps hold your "pretty" in place.

In this case the actual "hook" (the part that goes into the drapery rod)was way too big, so I simply snipped it off.

Coasters Displayed on Drapery Hook Easels

small easels made from curtain hooks

In this picture you can see I use them to display some very cute coasters my daughter made me for Mother's day this past May.

    Two Prong Curly Curtain Hooks

These two prong curtain hooks make cute easels too!

In this photo, you can see that you can use a 2 prong also. These have little curly ends already on them.

I have a CD player that only holds one disc. I use one of these small easels to display the case of the CD that is currently loaded into my player.

The items you can display on these little easels are endless... a favorite greeting card, business cards, a photo, a small plate, etc.

I have hundreds of these things and never thought to use them this way. Am so pleased as I have lots of miniature plates that I currently have blue tacked to the wall. Now I can display them properly.

I loved this idea and when I saw it I immediately purchased 16 vintage drapery hooks on ebay. They had black rubber tips which I though would be a nice added touch. I received them today and sat down to make some easels. I'm not sure if it is my technique or the fact that they are "vintage" but as soon as I bent them the welds broke and they fell apart. Moral of the story: if you are going to try this, make sure to get stainless steel or some other strong metal or hooks that are one piece without welds. I have 12 left and will continue to try until I either succeed or break them all!!

        Donna,

That's so sad! As I recall, some of mine had welds too, but I had a huge bag of them, and don't recall if/how many broke. 🙁 I sure hope that you get some of them to work.

        good luck!

This is such a clever idea. I am positive that I have a bag of those somewhere that could be made over into display stands. Thanks so much for sharing with this week's Throwback Thursday party.
