Small DIY Easel Project

Transforming ordinary drapery hooks into charming small easels offers a creative and practical way to display items like business cards, small plaques, or coasters. This simple DIY project requires minimal materials—just drapery hooks and needle-nose pliers. By carefully bending the prongs of the hooks, you can craft functional tabletop easels that elegantly showcase your cherished items.

These small easels, made from repurposed curtain hooks, are easy to make and perfect for displaying small items.

Supplies to Make Small Easels (Mini Stands)

The list of items needed for this DIY is very short. You will need a small needle-nosed set of pliers and curtain hooks.

How to Repurpose a Curtain or Drapery Hook

First, mark your hooks across so that all of your “bends” will be at the same point. If you don’t have drapery hooks, they are available on Amazon!

Bend Each Drapery Hook Prong

I bend the outer prongs to the front, and the inner prongs to the back.

The prongs I use in the front get an extra little bend in an up position, which helps hold your “pretty” in place.

In this case, the actual “hook” (the part that goes into the drapery rod)was way too big, so I snipped it off.

Two Prong Curly Curtain Hooks

These two-prong curtain hooks make cute easels, too!

In this photo, you can see that you can also use a 2-prong. These have little curly ends already on them.

I have a CD player that only holds one disc. I use one of these stand-up frames to display the case of the CD that is currently loaded into my player.

The items you can display on these little easels are endless… a favorite greeting card, business cards, a photo, a small plate, etc.

  1. I have hundreds of these things and never thought to use them this way. Am so pleased as I have lots of miniature plates that I currently have blue tacked to the wall. Now I can display them properly.

    1. Sue,

I’m soooo happy to help you out. Lucky you to already have them on hand. 🙂

Have fun, creating tiny easels for your miniature plates.

  2. I loved this idea and when I saw it I immediately purchased 16 vintage drapery hooks on ebay. They had black rubber tips which I though would be a nice added touch. I received them today and sat down to make some easels. I’m not sure if it is my technique or the fact that they are “vintage” but as soon as I bent them the welds broke and they fell apart. Moral of the story: if you are going to try this, make sure to get stainless steel or some other strong metal or hooks that are one piece without welds. I have 12 left and will continue to try until I either succeed or break them all!!

    1. Donna,

That’s so sad! As I recall, some of mine had welds too, but I had a huge bag of them, and don’t recall if/how many broke. 🙁 I sure hope that you get some of them to work.

      good luck!
