How to make a repurposed chandelier succulent planter that is interchangeable from hanging to setting on a table as a centerpiece. You could easily change this out with candles or potted plants. Spray painting a brass chandelier really gives you so many options to match your decor. #MyRepurposedLife #repurposed #chandelier #succulent #planter via @repurposedlife

I’ve done a lot of succulent planters, and a lot of repurposed chandeliers, but this is my first succulent planter repurposed chandelier! It’s the second Wednesday of the month, so this project is my contribution to the Thrift Store Decor Team challenge. Be sure to check out all the other great ideas at the bottom of this post!

    Repurposed Chandelier

Did you see the welcome porch post I made out of this black lamp post? Well, I considered marrying these two, but I decided to just do the post and save the chandelier for another project.

    Dismantle the Chandelier

    dismantle chandelier

To begin a repurposed chandelier, you need to gut it, and remove all the wiring.

    Easy Chandelier Planter

    Remove Chandelier Light Sockets

    remove chandelier light sockets

First of all  you will need to remove the light sockets where the wires are connected.

Patience is a must while dismantling all chandelier wiring. You will get better results if you follow these steps:

    1. Remove small screw
    2. Pull socket out of chandelier
    3. Snip wires with needle nose pliers
    4. Remove socket
    pull wires out of chandelier

Use needle nose pliers to pull the wires through the arm of the chandelier. Continue until all of the wires are removed.

    Remove Components of Chandelier

Have fun with this part! Work with all the parts, removing them, and playing with the configuration of all the components. Designing the look of your new succulent planter repurposed chandelier allows you to be creative with the final outcome!

Clean Thrift Store Chandelier with TSP

clean succulent planter repurposed chandelier TSP

You never know what your thrift store items have been through. A thorough cleaning with TSP or similar degreaser is a must.

    rinse chandelier with garden hose

It’s very important to rinse off the TSP and the grease grime or whatever!

Spray Paint Succulent Planter Repurposed Chandelier

    primer on succulent planter chandelier

Because the brass chandelier is so shiny, it’s best to use a primer before painting.

    reassemble succulent planter repurposed chandelier

This repurposed chandelier is so versatile! If you put your components together in different ways, you get different looks. By flipping the bottom cup,  this succulent planter will rest on a table.

But attach the chain, the the bottom cup (upside down) and the finial on the bottom, the succulent planter can hang on a shepherd’s hook or in a tree.

What’s the color? It’s Behr Spray Chalk Paint in Surf. It’s the same paint I used on the Repurposed Drawer Jewelry Organizer. Switching out the finial and the other parts really makes a big difference in how this succulent planter repurposed chandelier is used.

        Lori,

No, not real succulents (yet). I didn't have any on hand to use in order to get this project published for this deadline. 🙂
