Good morning! Are you getting tired of windows? memo centers? I hope not. I have a lot of windows in storage. This idea is not my own, nor is it anything new. I’m just going to show you my take on making a window memo board.
I have had this window for a long, long time! It was missing several panes.
The panes that were in tact were painted blue.
I used the panes to make a pattern for 2 pieces of lauan plywood. I painted one with chalk board paint, the other with magnetic paint.
I used a spare piece of ceiling tile to make pieces for 2 of the panes.
After I had spray painted it and tested all the pieces, I decided it needed a little sumpin sumpin.
I added some scrap crown molding to trim it out.
After I spray painted the trim. The white pieces in the middle are the original panes of glass. I scraped off the blue paint, and spray painted one side (the back) with white paint.
It can be hung with the trim at the top.
It can also be set on a counter or table.
Top left, magnetic board. Both middle sections dry erase. Bottom right chalk board. Two pieces covered in fabric memo boards.
Glass with white spray paint on the back, makes for a perfect surface to write on.
Which way do you like better? Trim at the top? or Trim at the bottom?

Wonderful either way, top or bottom. A brilliant new take on a window!!!
Gail, I like the trim on the bottom. Now if you can just help me with my wardrobe delima that some visiting dogs left me with. I’ll post about it soon. Susan
I was reading along there thinking why did she paint the glass white? well, duh! a white board… such a great idea. I’ve seen the corkboard/ceiling tile and the chalkboard paint, but not the white window glass… Way to go Gail!
So cute!!! I love your idea!! I’ve been thinking about doing a photo center with mine but maybe I’ll change it up a bit… First time here…I’m a new follower ๐ I heart Chic Chick media ๐
Ok Gail, I have some questions for you… 1. What brand of magnetic paint do you use? Does it have good holding power? 2. What do you recommend for the “cork” board if a person doesn’t have access to free ceiling tiles? Do you think a double thickness of cardboard (i.e. moving boxes, appliance boxes, etc) would work?
We are need of at least 2 possible 3 memo boards right now so… Also I promised the boys I would ones for their rooms (SOON!) so I really need to get cracking! For our eldest I am seriously thinking of affixing contact paper to his bi-fold closet doors and then spray painting them w/ chalkboard paint. This way the reminders can be written LARGE so he won’t ever “miss” anything again.. (ha ha!!)
This is awesome… love your combination of squares… I like the shelf on the top the best but it looks great on the bottom also. Can’t wait to see what you are up to next.
OH.MY.GOSH. I AM LOVING THIS!!! I need it for my house! And since when did they start making magnetic paint?? Oh man I need to get some of that! Where did you find it?

Thanks and keep up the good work!!
i really love this idea! i think it looks much better with the molding at the top, but seems more functional at the bottom.

I think I like the trim at the bottom, just so there’s a place to put the chalk. Lovely!
Looks great! It’a amazing what adding a little crown can do for an old window. Looks good both ways, up or down. Good job!
